From the architect. Els Encants in Barcelona is a centenarian marketplace, which has historically been established outdoor in an informal way. Its recent spot is not significantly from the market’s new grounds and is heading to occupy the junction of Merdiana Avenue with Las Glorias Square. The project’s principal objective was to maintain the open up nature of the current outdoor marketplace Els Encants. The minimal measurement of the new grounds (8,000 m2) was a excellent constraint, as the commercial programme was far more than double that spot. Its layout intends to steer clear of developing a number of floors therefore rejecting the design of a industrial centre. Instead of that, a continuous professional area was designed, with slightly inclined planes intertwining and creating an unlimited loop which hyperlinks stalls and tiny outlets. Els Encants em Barcelona é um mercado centenário tradicionalmente organizado de maneira informal na rua ao ar livre. O espaço para a nova localização do mercado, não longe da atual, se situa na confluência da avenida Meridiana e a praça das Glorias. O principal objetivo do projeto é manter o caráter aberto e de mercado de rua. A área limitada de aproximadamente 8000 m² de terreno para um programa comercial que ocupa mais do dobro de área supõe um forte condicionante. O projeto procura evitar a construção de diferentes pavimentos, rejeitando o modelo de centro comercial. Para isto, se projeta um espaço comercial contínuo com planos levemente inclinados que se entrelaçam de um nó que gera o percurso sem solução contínua entre os postos comerciais e as pequenas lojas numa experiência similar à de passear por uma rua pedonal.

Uma grande cobertura suspensa, a quase 25 metros de altura, confere ao mercado reconhecibilidade como equipamento urbano de primeira ordem e protege da radiação solar a comerciantes e usuários. A cobertura é organizada em bandas de larguras variáveis. Sua face inferior gera um teto de múltiplos planos quebrados que se convertem num mecanismo de reflexão da cidade para o interior do mercado. O edifício conta com dois níveis no subsolo. O primeiro é destinado à própria logística do mercado, enquanto que o segundo é o estacionamento público para os usuários da instalação.

Огромная крыша-навес защищает продавцов и покупателей от жаркого солнца и дождя. А ещё она в прямом смысле слова отражает всё, что происходит вокруг. Конечно, рынок стал современнее. Об этом свидетельствуют два подземных этажа, один из которых отведён под подземную парковку, а другой – под логистические нужды рынка.

Els Encants是巴塞罗那当地一个具有百年历史的市集,自开放以来就相对自由的户外交易模式。当前,老市场的位置与新市场相距并不算远,位于Merdiana大街和Las Glorias广场的交接处。新设计试图保留原有室外交易市场开放的特性。但是,新项目受到场地的限制(只有8,000平方米),作为商业活动场所,面积至少应是目前的两倍多。

设计伊始为避免将其变成像购物中心那样的多层建筑,设计团队运用了一种连续的商业空间——利用微倾斜的平面形成能够连接小摊位还有商铺的循环空间,给到此购物的人一种在马路上闲逛的感觉。通过对平面的弯曲设计,实现了将新市场周边的不同标高道路协调引入。一旦进入市场,各个入口的层高就变的比较模糊。 新建筑有一个25米高的大顶篷,既是一处重要的地标同时还可以遮阳。大顶篷是折曲的;底部通过材料的运用还能反射出城市生活的场景。建筑的地下有两层,地下一层是满足市场后勤需要的房间,地下二层则是公共停车场。

b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos is a multicultural and multilingual studio employing more than 40 professionals of up to seven nationalities. This gives the studio a wide-ranging and enriching vision of global reality.

b720 is first and foremost a team. The practice produces architecture that is resolutely contemporary and reflects its commitment to the responsible use of natural resources. The coherence of the firm’s work is based on a distinctive way of working that deliberately avoids the development of a particular style or formalistic approach. Each project emerges from the search for a specific solution, with clients and society as essential reference points. The response to the programme, context, budget and time constraints is necessarily unique. 720 is the number assigned to architecture under the international coding system for materials. The name of the team is thus an abstract, codified reflection of the firm’s founding mission to produce good architecture.

Fermín Vázquez (Madrid, 1961) is the head of the b720 architectural practice. He graduated from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM) and has pursued doctoral studies at the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB). He combines professional practice with teaching activity. He has worked as a lecturer in architectural projects at the École d’Architecture et de Paysage in Bordeaux, at the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB) and at the European University of Madrid. He participates in workshops and conferences at institutions and universities around the world and regularly contributes to specialised international publications.
