Ball-Nogues Studio took part in a lecture at the A+D Museum, as part of the exhibition at Edward Cella Art + Architecture, on Tuesday March 13th. The event, In Conversation: Lynn Aldrich, Benjamin Ball and Merry Norris with art critic Scarlet Cheng was a big success. Ball and Nogues will lecture at Butler University on Wednesday, April 25th at 7:30pm and lecture at Ohio State University Knowlton School of Architecture on Wednesday, May 9th at 5:30pm. They have also been invited to create a site-specific installation for the gallery space at the Southern California Institute of Architecture which opens on June 1, 2012.
UCLA lecturers Benjamin Ball and Gaston Nogues of Ball-Nogues Studio have won several new commissions. Their proposal Euphony was selected out of the short listed artist entries for a site in Nashville’s new Music City Center. Dallas Love Field is also commissioning Ball-Nogues to design a suspended piece for the airport’s remodel and expansion. A work for an atrium space in the San Diego County Operations Center will be installed and opening Summer 2012. Ball-Nogues Studio is moving forward with the design development for the project Air Garden for Los Angeles International Airport’s new Bradley West Terminal. And finally, ground has been broken on developments in West Hollywood where Ball-Nogues has been commissioned to design two permanent exterior pieces. Cloud (working title) will be hanging over a plaza space near Fountain and La Brea and Aura (working title) will be at the corner of Santa Monica and La Brea.

Benjamin Ball grew up in Colorado and Iowa, where his mother’s involvement in theatre proved influential. While studying for his degree at the Southern California Institute of Architecture, Ball logged stints at Gehry Partners and Shirdel Zago Kipnis. Upon graduation, he sought work as a set and production designer for films (including the Matrix series) as well as music videos and commercials with such influential directors as Mark Romanek and Tony Scott. His experience ranges from work on the Disney Concert Hall and small residential commissions for boutique firms to complex medical structures and event design. In his current collaboration with Gaston Nogues, Ball is exploring the intersection of architecture, art and product design through physical modeling and the use of digital and more traditional forms of production.
The work of Ball-Nogues Studio has been exhibited at major institutions throughout the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Guggenheim Museum; PS1; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; arc en rêve centre d’architecture + Musée d’Art Contemporain de Bordeaux; the Venice Biennale, the Hong Kong | Shenzhen Biennale; and the Beijing Biennale. The practice has received numerous honors including three American Institute of Architects Design Awards, United States Artists Target Fellowships and a grant from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts. In 2011, Ball-Nogues was named one of the Architectural League of New York’s Emerging Voices.
