New York-based fine artist Benjamin Phelan works with amoebic, other-worldly forms in unnatural colour combinations to explore biomorphic mutation and technological integration. Working across sculpture, installation, moving image and digital renderings, his work often includes sprayed colour surface finishes where pigments are layered to create new hues, and iridescent coatings.

Phelan’s portfolio showcases a merging of science and art to create a new aesthetic, where colour and form are free to move beyond modern conventions. His approach also demonstrates a harmonious approach to both virtual and real-world colour palettes and surface finishes, where each medium informs the other.

American artist Benjamin Phelan lives and works in Brooklyn. “I am working to invent a subconscious cybernetic production technology, manufacturing perceptual devices through systems of malleable forms. The industries surrounding cinematic special effects of and commercial prototypes connect my work to the campaign of modern design, the production of rarified aesthetic vernaculars.”
