The Amsterdam based artist couple Erwin Driessens (1963 Wessem) and Maria Verstappen (1964 Someren) have worked together since 1990. After their study at the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and the Rijksakademie Amsterdam, they jointly developed a multifaceted oeuvre of software, machines and objects. Their research focuses on the possibilities that physical, chemical and computer algorithms can offer for the development of image generating processes. (Read more in the introduction text.)
Driessens & Verstappen participated in numerous exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad, a.o. Centraal Museum Utrecht, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Rotterdam, LABoral Gijón, IVAM Institute Valencia, Museum Kröller-Müller Otterlo, Neue Pinakothek München, Les Abattoirs Toulouse, Eyebeam New York. The couple gives lectures and presentations at universities, art academies, festivals and conferences, a.o. Siggraph Los Angeles, Sonic Acts Amsterdam, Second Iteration Melbourne. In 1999 and 2001 their Tickle robot projects have been awarded first prize at VIDA, an international competition for Art & Artificial Life. In 2013 they received the Witteveen+Bos Art+Technology Award for their entire oeuvre. The artists are represented by DAM gallery in Berlin. (Read more in the extensive biography.)

Het Amsterdamse kunstenaarsduo Erwin Driessens (1963 Wessem) en Maria Verstappen (1964 Someren) werkt samen sinds 1990. Na hun studie aan de Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Maastricht en de Rijksakademie te Amsterdam, ontwikkelden zij samen een veelzijdig oeuvre van software, machines en objecten. Hun onderzoek richt zich op de mogelijkheden die fysische, chemische en computer algoritmes kunnen bieden voor het ontwikkelen van beeldgenererende processen. (Lees meer in de inleidende tekst.)
Driessens & Verstappen namen deel aan tal van tentoonstellingen in Nederland en daarbuiten, o.a. Centraal Museum Utrecht, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Rotterdam, LABoral Gijón, IVAM Instituut Valencia, Kröller-Müller Museum Otterlo, Neue Pinakothek München, Les Abattoirs Toulouse, Eyebeam New York. Het duo geeft lezingen en presentaties op universiteiten, kunstacademies, festivals en conferenties, o.a. Siggraph Los Angeles, Sonic Acts Amsterdam, Second Iteration Melbourne.
