Advertising and art are everywhere; often in things we take for granted. Digital artist Kim Laughton has made a name for himself by designing a huge collection of amazing flyers over the past few years for clubs and events. Working for Sub-Culture Shanghai and labels like Fade To Mind, Laughton uses original and stock 3D objects to create surreal digital imagery. His style really reflects the live music scene and creates quite an impact with the bold use of colours and neon, as well as the warped imagery. Unlike many flyers that would just end up in the bin, these are ones you’d want to hold onto.

Some extraordinary 3D design here from Shanghai-based artist Kim Laughton. Kim consider himself a little impatient because he usually don’t like anything that isn’t finished in a day or two. You may recognize his work from some of Kingdom‘s visuals or from TIMEFLY (his personal clothing label). TIMEFLY is where Kim puts most of his energy, where he can enjoy the sense of collaborating with the artists who produce designs to go on the clothes through the renders, even if the collaboration is very one sided. There are some exciting new artists lined up for TIMEFLY, giving a lot of potential to play with the whole thing. “Most people don’t realise that it’s a physical brand with products to buy, which is bad for sales, but interesting.”- says Kim.

随便说一句,Kim Laughton生于1984年,属于80后。2006年,大学毕业后,就独立闯世界了。先在东京待了两年,出了一本摄影集,然后2008年底来到上海。年纪轻轻,就有这样的摄影功力,真是不简单啊!

Over the past couple years, Kim Laughton has taken club flyers to another level entirely, designing for Sub-Culture Shanghai and forward labels like Fade To Mind. The Shanghai-based net artist has become known for his particular use of original and stock 3D objects to create surreal imagery. When I look at his work I can feel something unlocking in my subconscious.
