KOEN HAUSER 88

Amethyst initially was created as a site-specific installation with images and sound. Slowly dissolving slides reminisce the process of decay. The automated slideshow is projected in a dimly lit but richly decorated room, the visual style of the imagery referring to fashion photography. I created this work on the occasion of Salon/1, by whom I was invited to show my work in Museum van Loon during the Amsterdam Fashion Week 2010.

Koen Hauser (1972) works as a photographer and visual artist.

He finished his masters of science in social psychology (1996, Rijksuniversiteit Leiden), later followed by studying photography at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (2002). Hauser is known for his intangible body of work flowing between fine arts, fashion and applied photography. From purely esthetical to highly conceptual, he frequently references or paraphrases the iconic visual language of historical photography, or even incorporates exisiting images into his work. Together with his distinguished feel for appearance and his love for the mysterious, alienating, strange and uncanny, these are the key elements that form the core of his body of work, which has a distinct metaphysical dimension.

He received several grants from the Fonds BKVB, teached at the Gerrit Rietveld academie and the Willem de Kooning academie and his work has been on show in exhibitions across Europe, the United States and China.

His work has featured in a wide range of renowned magazines like l’Officiel, Blend, Spoon Magazine, Esquire USA, Capricious, Under/Current, Volkskrant magazine, FOAM magazine, Mr Motley and Kunstbeeld.
