MATTHIAS DÖRFELT

Mokafolio is the digital portfolio and playground of Los Angeles based Communication Designer and Media Artist Matthias Dörfelt. Matthias studied at Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts where he graduated in Communication Design (Bachelor of Arts). He is very much interested in Art, Design, Programing and Technology and is thus trying to gather and combine experience from all those fields.

Matthias programes custom software for most of his works since he feels that this allows him to overcome the conceptual constraints and aesthetics that you would otherwise end up with if you only sticked to the mainstream digital design tools. Furthermore his interest shifted more and more towards artistic real time and installation work. That is why he started working on his own C++ multimedia framework which will be opensourced as soon as it reaches a certain state.

Matthias gathers most of his inspiration from the things that surround him: Digitality, Science, Nature, Music and Society. He aims at further artistic and interactive explorations of these areas. Overall the generative and procedural approach of his work is very close to the digital medium that he works with. He is very excited to go into deeper investigations and push the boundaries of Art, Design and Technology in the future.

Matthias just started his graduate studies at UCLA in Design Media Arts.

“Mechanical Parts” is a series of drawings by Robo Faber, an autonomous drawing robot created by Matthias Dörfelt. His thought process for making drawings has been programmed into Robo Faber. As time passes Dörfelt’s process will inevitably change, but the robot will continue to drawing the same way, and represent a really specific time in terms of the designer’s creative thinking.

“Creato da Matthias Dörfelt, Mechanical Parts è una serie di connettori grafici creati da Robo Faber, un robot autonomo determinato a creare ininterrottamente disegni generati utilizzando un sistema preimpostato progettato pensando a come i disegni vengono creati a mano e a come queste modalità possono essere trasferite in un algoritmo”
