“Mr & Mme Rêve” is a co-production by Compagnie Pietragalla-Derouault and Dassault Systèmes (3DS). This virtual irreality show for all was born of a desire shared by Marie-Claude Pietragalla, Julien Derouault and 3DS. An innovation through technology and 3D experiences to honor the “Total Theatre” imagined by Eugene Ionesco. A theater where the unusual staging can be an insurmountable challenge priori. Imagine if virtual irreality allow to invent a new language in the service of imagination?

We live the performing arts as one of the last collective rites, a last place of communion…

The choreographic work questions the body and culture that shapes an individual.
The indelible marks engraved in the flesh conducts the writing. In contrast to such “conceptualization” of the body object , the human remains at the heart of inspiration and research.

Our relationship to intimate and collective memory enriches our study on the essence of movement and its universality. We define our work as Théâtre du corps:

We question the links and rules assimilated on the surface, reaffirming the perception we have of the gesture by continuously questioning what defines a human being.

Choreography as universal language.

Our society splits the mind from body. and divids conscious from unconscious, manifesting repressed thoughts in the flesh.

Our body has developed and acquired a hidden language of its own that dance attemps to transmit. It is a vector of dream, unconsciousness and imagination. The movement becomes its narration, expressing a repressedinner dialogue.

Primitive societies experimented with dance as a dialogue with the sacred. Trance / dance, language of tribal cultures, all memory of improvisations, leads us inexorably back to our true nature.

The choreography as a medium liberates the unconscious, a means to recreate this original link. It provides a shared place for ritual to liberate man emotion and reflection.

Dance is not just an object of intellectual analysis, it is also the art of sensitivity.

The dramatization of the body and its language invites the audience to place itself beyond the prism of the intellect.

As artists and citizens involved in the world of today, we draw our inspiration from history. We have a constant concern for connecting history with the present, for a better comprehension of the philosophy behind different cultures.

The more one explores the art of movement … the more one wants to find the essence of gesture…, the more one tends towards a form of purity ….

Dance draws us to our origins: Movement, first expression before language, the dialogue that confronts us with our own primitive impulse.

Dance is questioning, reaching deep within oneself. Dance, theater, music, cinema, circus, visual arts, literature, echo one another. By merging these, we create new forms of expression shaped by social currents and events in a transforming world.

Dance, like any other art form is always in a state of mutation and change. Dancers are constantly finding new and exciting ways to express themselves. The highly celebrated French dancers Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Julien Derouault have done just that by adopting the 3D technology of French company Dassault Systemes to create a visually intriguing new show.
Mr et Mme Reve (or Mr and Mrs Dream in English) is a work conjured up from the minds of Pietragalla and Derouault, after many triumphant years of working with ideas of the absurd in dance and movement. Based on the writings of the absurdist playwright Eugene Ionesco, the duo took his themes and plays and created a fantastical piece of modern dance.
During a chance meeting the dancers were approached by Dassault Systemes who were interested in working with them to create an all together groundbreaking show. Dassault Systemes specialise in 3D virtual reality programmes that are used for everything from car manufacturing to architecture. They have now used this same technology to create a three dimensional dream like background for the dancers to perform in and interact with.
The show itself follows Mr and Mrs Dream as they journey through various plays of Ionesco. Each play is represented in a variety ofMr Mme Reve photo 2 different dance styles and accompanied by virtual reality backgrounds, ranging from a slightly bizarre claustrophobic house to breathtaking mountain landscapes that move through the seasons. This is all accompanied by a fitting musical score.
The show was let down in some very small parts by the fact that the interaction between the dancers and the backgrounds simply did not work. However Bernard Charles, the managing director for Dassault Systemes has said, ‘The partnership has been one, I believe, of mutual discovery.’ And indeed this is still somewhat early days for this kind of performance. This small disappointment is compensated for by most of the show being visually stunning in both the 3D sets and the movements of the dancers.
One thing that the partnership has most definitely achieved is to introduce this modern technology to an audience more accustomed to dance and theatre. Although Dassault, Pietragalla and Derouault denied that what they had created with their partnership was particularly new in technological terms, the overall product is highly original in content and has created a foundation from which other performing arts companies can adopt the concept.
Mr Mme Reve photoThe city of Paris has so much to offer its visitors something like this could easily slip under the radar, however this is a must-see for fans of Pietragalla and Derouault, people looking for something different to the ‘norm’ or anyone with an interest in the works of Ionesco and the human condition. Both companies are planning to move the show around France in the coming year with the possibility of a European tour on the horizon.
The future of this performing art is still very much in an embryonic stage, but its journey is sure to be an interesting one. William Connelly

Nous vivons le spectacle vivant comme un des derniers rites collectifs, dernier espace de communion…

Notre travail questionne le corps, la culture façonnant l’individu. La création révèle toutes ces traces parfois indélébiles qui s’inscrivent dans la chair et orientent l’écriture chorégraphique.
A l’opposé d’une « conceptualisation » du corps vécu comme objet, l’humain demeure au centre de notre inspiration et de nos recherches. Nos rapports à l’intimité et à la mémoire collective enrichissent notre étude sur l’essence du mouvement et sa portée universelle.

Nous définissons ce travail comme le « théâtre du Corps »

Là où nous interrogeons les liens et les règles en apparence assimilés et où nous renouvelons la perception que nous avons du geste, et où nous questionnons sans cesse ce qui nous constitue en tant qu’être humain.

La chorégraphie, un langage universel.

Notre société en dissociant le corps de l’esprit, scinde une pensée consciente d’une pensée inconsciente refoulée dans la chair.

Notre corps a alors développé et acquis un langage caché qui lui est propre et que la danse se propose de transmettre. Il est vecteur de l’inconscient, du rêve et de l’imaginaire.

Le mouvement devient sa narration, la mise en espace de ce dialogue inhibé.

Les sociétés primitives expérimentaient la danse comme un dialogue avec le sacré. La transe/danse langage des civilisations tribales, mémoire de toute improvisation, nous renvoie inexorablement à notre nature profonde.

La chorégraphie devient le support où se libère l’inconscient et recréé ce lien primitif. Elle offre alors un lieu de ritualisation où se partagent une émotion et une réflexion sur l’Homme.

La danse n’est pas qu’un objet intellectuel et d’analyse, elle est aussi l’art du sensible. La théâtralisation du corps et de son langage demande au spectateur de se placer lui-même au-delà du prisme de l’intellect.

Le « théâtre du corps », miroir de la société.

Artistes et citoyens impliqués dans notre société contemporaine, nous y puisons notre inspiration et restons à l’écoute de l’Histoire avec le souci constant de créer un lien avec le présent, afin de mieux saisir les mécanismes de pensées inhérents à chaque culture. Plus on explore l’art du mouvement…

Plus on a envie de retrouver l’essentiel du geste, plus on tend vers une forme d’épure…. La danse touche à nos origines : le mouvement, première expression de l’homme, avant le langage, est ce dialogue qui nous confronte à nos propres pulsions primitives.

Danser, c’est s’interroger, c’est aller au plus profond de soi.

La danse, le théâtre, la musique, le cinéma, le cirque, les arts plastiques, la littérature, se nourrissent mutuellement. En les entremêlant, nous puisons de nouvelles formes d’expression façonnées par les courants sociaux et les événements d’un monde en mutation.

«Mr et Mme Rêve» è un racconto magico sotto forma di balletto che ha numerosi fili conduttori come l’arte, la danza e la coreografia ma anche la tecnologia, l’innovazione, la realtà virtuale.

Apparentemente sembrano troppe cose insieme, ma in realtà sono tutte legate da un tema comune che è la passione con cui i coreografi e ballerini Marie-Claude Pietragalla e Julien Derouault hanno messo su questo emozionante spettacolo in una delle più belle location parigine: Halle Freyssinet.

La sfida è stata quella di dosare perfettamente gli aspetti tecnologici e innovativi della scenografia con la coreografia del balletto, in modo che non risultassero eccessivi o distraenti, ma solo funzionali alla storia.
