Fluid Matters – Serbia

Fluid Matters explores how liquid and light can materialize sensations without stable form. Organic references are reimagined through digital processes and merge with fluid motion to create a hybrid entity that exists between recognition and the artificial. The work reveals what lies beyond direct perception and allows the invisible to surface for a moment.

POIESIS I-III – Brazil

POIESIS I–III is an experimental triptych that investigates image production through artificial intelligence and generative systems. Situated between the organic and the synthetic, the works present unstable materialities in continuous processing, revealing the codes, glitches, and structures of the image itself. Organized in temporal cycles and accompanied by an immersive sound mesh, the videos propose a perceptual experience in which transformation and artificiality become language.

A Bedtime Story for the End – China

In the near future, a global plague of “perpetual wakefulness” has taken away everyone’s ability to dream. People then discover that our collective, unconscious dreams were the very energy that kept the laws of the universe stable. As the dreams vanish, reality itself begins to fray and unravel. The rules of physics come loose in ways both poetic and strange. Countless sleepless people toss and turn in their rooms, the border between their inner minds and the outer world blurring.

BIO

Zheyan is a visual artist and poet from Chenzhou, China, and a graduate of Metfilm School, in London. His work spans experimental film, documentary, photography, and AI-generated art. He uses a calm, restrained visual language to create cold, philosophical spaces, prompting audiences to reflect on human existence.

Shifting – Brazil

In seemingly ordinary supermarkets, everything stands on the verge of transformation. The everyday environment along with everyone undergoes a transition into an unstable spatial condition.

Shifting traces this process: people and objects appear to traverse invisible layers of reality following the emergence of an extradimensional presence. What was once familiar becomes indeterminate, as if space itself were recalibrating according to an unfamiliar logic.

BIO

Mirage Bureau is an artist working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, poetics, and visual storytelling. His practice explores emerging frontiers of AI-generated image-making, treating the body and language as delicate instruments of connection, continually disrupted by noise, projection, and emotional overflow.

Emerging from the liquid space between myth and simulacrum, a mermaid who once gave up her voice and tail reappears multiplied across digital surfaces, where the body fragments and expands through states of desire and silence. An echo, foam and ghost of an unstable presence. It unfolds a restless hybridity, haunted by scripted roles and metamorphosis to exist in the age of hyperreality.

BIO

S4RA works with video installation and immersive digital environments. Explores consensual power relations, desire and confinement, crossing the political body with liquid and post-capitalist landscapes. Trampoline Rebondissant

Inverta
A circular axle is able to rotate by the use of 36 universal joints hanging from perspex rods and transmitting their rotary motion onto the next. In between the joints, 36 stainless steel objects are attached that rotate at the same speed as the axle. One of the objects has a slightly thinner body, making room for two integrated timing pulleys and thin cogged belts that connect it with the drive mechanism situated on the upper circular frame. The objects are made from thin sheet material and are carefully balanced by placing several counterweights inside their hollow bodies and by perforating their tails, reducing the amount of material furthest away from the axle. During the entire revolution their centre of gravity perfectly aligns with the position of the axle so that a stable rotation is ensured.

Colourfield
Colourfield is an evolutionary ecosystem of colour. Colour agents try to exist in a simple universe by producing colours that are suited to their environment. This environment is determined by the other agents and the colours they produce. Entering into complex feedback cycles, Colourfield presents an evolving palette of shifting colours. Different configurations emerge based on the strategies the ecosystem discovers for co-existance and co-dependency. Harmonious configurations often remain stable for a short while, before eventually being replaced by new relations, better able to survive in the ever shifting environment.

Concrete Storm
On first impression, visitors experience solid forms, which draw on minimalist motifs and underscore the stable properties of concrete. While wearing the HoloLens, viewers enter a mixed reality, enlivened by responsive holograms that augment the physical environment of the installation. With Concrete Storm, DRIFT explores the layer between the parallel worlds, whereby the real and the virtual worlds co-exist. People’s attention is now constantly divided between these two worlds in which they coexist. The artists believe that combining these two seemingly separate worlds they can study the unlimited possibilities of the unstoppable evolution. Concrete Storm expands the boundaries of the digital world, freed from screens, and integrated into the fabric of physical existence.

Untitled: (A Search for Ghosts in the Meat Machine)
What does it mean to be human? At first glance a simple question, the idea of being human is an unstable construct, continuously recrafted. Recent technological innovations allow us to redesign ourselves profoundly— from networked prosthetics and artificial intelligence, to the genetic code of life itself. Can our behaviors be reduced to algorithms? Can our bodies be upgraded with nonorganic integrations? Can sentience itself by manufactured in a lab? This set of nine sculptures examines personhood from anatomical, psychological, genetic, biochemical, behavioral, algorithmic, personal narrative and memory. In many ways, this installation is an emotional confrontation with being quantifiable.

Fito Segrera

The form of becoming
In this abstract system, each intelligent agent is embodied as a motor, the states in its environment is represented as an angular range of rotation and the actions as one of two directions in which each agent can move a linear actuator. Each linear system holds a segment of a long black string, this translates as a point in the represented line. Once the system runs, each agent learns, from informational equivalents of pain and pleasure, to move towards the highest values within its environment, this means ultimately to displace its position from point A to B. In order for an agent to learn, it needs time, generations of exploration, each agent will get punished for bad decisions and rewarded for appropriate ones. Every time a learning generation is finished, a light will blink for that particular agent, indicating the end of a cycle and the achievement of new knowledge; the agent becomes more intelligent. Once all agents learned to be and stay in point B, the system, as a collective, has successfully mutated into a stable, balanced, symmetric and silent form; a straight line. Finally, after a few seconds, the sculpture forgets, all agents are rebooted and the cycle of creation, chaos and order restarts, this time with a totally different and unique behavior.

Trisha Brown

Newark & M.G

THE LONG NOW
A soap bubble usually remains stable for only a few moments – it is a perfectly formed sphere with an iridescent surface that reflects its surroundings. As one of the classical vanitas symbols the soap bubble traditionally stands for the transience of the moment and the fragility of life. THE LONG NOW approaches the soap bubble from a contemporary perspective – with reference to its chemical and physical properties as well as recent scientific and technological developments. THE LONG NOW is aimed at extending the lifespan of a soap bubble, or even to preserve it forever. Using an improved formula, a machine generates a bubble, sends it to a chamber with a controlled atmosphere and keeps it there in suspension for as long as possible. The project is presented in the form of an experimental set-up in which the newly created soap bubble oscillates permanently between fragility and stability.

TZUSOO

SCHRÖDINGER’S BABY
Schrödinger’s Baby(2019/20), TZUSOO alludes to the popular thought experiment devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. Schrödinger proposed a scenario in which a cat is locked in a box with an unstable radioactive atom that could potentially begin to emit radiation and release a toxic gas. However, there is no way to say with certainty when or indeed whether this will happen without opening the box. The result is a paradox, with Schrödinger asserting that the cat enters a state of superposition that makes it impossible to say whether it is alive or dead. The South Korean artist translates this famous paradox into the reality of her own life, creating a digital baby in virtual space. Based on her inner grappling with potential motherhood, TZUSOO bought the digital model of a developing embryo, refining it according to her own ideas. She is free to determine the sex, skin colour and other characteristics or to dispense with all specifications so as to avoid stereotyping. In Schrödinger’s Baby, TZUSOO thus discuss core aspects of her work including reflection on gender and origin for which she also draws on her personal experience as a South Korean artist in Europe.

“The Physical Mind” is Vonk’s attempt to let participants experience the relation between their physical and mental states by applying physical pressure to the body. The installation consists of two inflatable objects in-between which a participant lays down to subsequently get lifted up and be gently squeezed between the curves of the two objects. While the lifting creates an unstable feeling, this stressful sensation is soon thereafter contrasted with the secure feeling of being gently squeezed between two soft objects. Besides this experience for participants, the installation also evokes feelings of empathy amongst bystanders who witness participants undergo the experience.

Never Mind That Noise You Heard

Through sculpture, photography, performance, sound and video, Allora and Calzadilla’s works have been informed by questions of mark making, traces, and survival in a way that is simultaneously conceptual, metaphorical and spatial. Their understanding of material and metaphor as a couple is crucial; for them a material is never simply self-evident in its meaning, it is always marked with histories, cultures, and politics that are at once irreducible to and indivisible from the material in question. Another recurrent trope in their work is that of animality, and its unstable relationship to the realm of the human. Most recently, they have created a series of works that explore the interplay between militarism and sound in the context of today’s global state of war.

Magnetic Urges
Magnetic Urges is a project, created in inspiration of Newton’s “Laws of Motion”* and as a point of view that expresses and visualises “action” as any part of human body’s getting in unstable form due to forces of attraction which can easily reconciled with magnetism. Although it refers to stated matters, the project has an independent psyche from theories or laws in the domain of science. Human, as a mystic trinity, only aims to contact these unrestrictable “forces”** which form it’s own self (metaphorically) to a geometric shape.
