“The city, however, does not tell its past, but contains it like the lines of a hand, written in the corners of the streets, the gratings of the windows, the banisters of the steps, the antennae of the lightning rods, the poles of the flags, every segment marked in turn with scratches, indentations, scrolls.” Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino

Similar to this passage, I use mirrors to shine light on the corners of Treasure Hill that we might have overlooked. In daylight the mirror frames the mountain’s convoluted and layered scenery, making it seem like a large parasite living in the fractured time of the massive mountain. But at night, as the village lights slowly come up, each household sinks back into its own history. I hope that as visitors join in shedding light on Treasure Hill, they will make memories of the joyous scene of each illuminated street and alley, and that by participating in this small installation, will transform Treasure Hill and renew their relationships with others and this place.
