Concepto
Este proyecto es una interpretación contemporánea de la arquitectura del patio 18thcentury de la Universidad Estatal de Milán, traducidos y transformados de rígidas geometrías cartesianas en la fluidez lineal del espacio dinámico. Para adaptarse a los contornos naturales del patio y las fuerzas que convergen hacia el centro, el proyecto hace hincapié en la vertiente de los arcos, creando un vórtice poderoso de distorsión espacial que favorece el diálogo con la columnata circundante. El desarrollo de las complejas geometrías tridimensionales curvadas de la instalación, a partir de las baldosas cerámicas planas, añade otro nivel de complejidad al conjunto.

Los visitantes son animados a explorar la sensibilidad escultural y dinámico formal de los diferentes elementos en los que la relación de equilibrio entre llenos y vacíos expresa la solución de proyecto.Cada pieza individual puede interpretarse no sólo como un todo, sino también como un fragmento capturado de un campo magnético. Un cierto margen de extrañeza introduce un estímulo que se ha desarrollado entre la fuerza latente y el material físico.

Proyecto
El proyecto consiste en láminas de gres laminados (Slimtech por Lea Ceramiche), 1 metro de ancho, cortadas a diferentes alturas, de hasta 2 metros. Los bordes seguir el flujo elegante de la geometría que corresponde a una superficie total de 800 m2 de baldosas. Cada panel está compuesto por dos capas superpuestas de ultra-finas baldosas de 3 mm. Para la instalación 7 códigos de color diferentes se han utilizado, creando matices de blanco a negro. Visto desde un lado, los diferentes colores dan lugar a cambios constantes de apariencia, aprovechando los cambios en la luz del día y de la naturaleza de la curvatura. La instalación transforma el patio en un espacio que constantemente cambia de forma y color, dependiendo de múltiples perspectivas. La plataforma vuelve a alinear la rejilla deformada de la columnata de las baldosas pixelados y subraya la sombra de los azulejos verticales.

pritzker prize-winning architect zaha hadid has designed ‘twirl’, an installation created for interni magazine’s mutant architecture & design event during this year’s milan design week (11-17 april, 2011). a contemporary study on courtyard architecture, the design utilizes a series of ultraslim slabs by italian ceramic manufacturer lea ceramiche to fabricate a vortex-like three-dimensional structure in the 16th-century setting of milan’s state university.

covering an area of 800 m2, the site is bound on all sides by two-storey columns and an elevated exterior walkway. the varying planar ceramic sheets, a product called ‘slimtech’, are arranged to transform the rigid geometries of the courtyard into a fluid and dynamic spatial construct. drawing from the natural contours of the plot, the installation emphasizes its arches and curves to distort its sense of space.

the system of panels fluctuate in height, reaching a verticality of up to 2 meters at its apex. seven different shades of colour ranging from milky white to coffee black give the installation a constantly-changing appearance, taking advantage of the transforming daylight and the curvature of the design. ‘twirl’ encourages the viewer to engage the space by exploring and observing the courtyard from multiple vantage points. at night, a series of fluorescent tubes produced by artemide highlights the spiral movement, spreading from the centre to the edges of the site and in turn lighting the existing architecture of the setting.

Concept
This project is a contemporary interpretation of the architecture of the 18thcentury courtyard of the State University of Milan, translated and transformed from rigid Cartesian geometries into the linear fluidity of dynamic space. Adapting to the natural contours of the courtyard and the forces that converge towards its center, the project emphasizes the slope of the arches, creating a powerful vortex of spatial distortion that favors dialogue with the surrounding colonnade. The development of the complex three-dimensional curved geometries of the installation, starting with the flat ceramic tiles, adds another level of complexity to the whole.

Visitors are encouraged to explore the sculptural sensibility and formal dynamic of different elements in which the balanced relationship between solids and voids expresses the project solution. Each individual piece can be interpreted not only as a whole, but also as a captured fragment of a magnetic field. A certain margin of strangeness introduces a stimulus that has evolved between latent force and physical material.

Project
The project consists of laminated stoneware sheets (Slimtech by Lea Ceramiche), 1 meter wide, cut at various heights, up to 2 metres. The edges follow the elegant flow of the geometry that corresponds to an overall tiled surface of 800 m2. Each panel is composed of two overlapping layers of ultra-thin tiles of 3 mm. For the installation 7 different color codes have been used, creating shadings from white to black. Seen from the side, the various colors give rise to constant changes of appearance, taking advantage of the changes in the daylight and the nature of the curvature. The installation transforms the courtyard into a space that constantly alters its form and color, depending on multiple perspectives. The platform realigns the deformed grid of the colonnade to the pixelated floor tiles and underscores the shadow of the vertical tiles.

TWIRL – футуристический объект от Захи Хадид (Zaha Hadid), расположенный во дворе Миланского Государственного Университета (State University of Milan), представляет собой современную интерпретацию архитектуры 16-го века. Следуя замыслу автора, жесткая декартова геометрия старины трансформируется здесь в линейную текучесть пространственной динамики дня сегодняшнего.

Составляющие структуры, адаптированной к существующим контурам двора, постепенно сходятся к центру. Создавая мощный вихрь пространственных искажений, объект вступает в диалог с окружающими ее колоннадами и арками.

Посетителям предлагается изучить скульптурную чувствительность и динамику элементов инсталляции, в которой гармонично сбалансированы отношения между твердыми телами и пустотами. Футуристическая «вихревая» структура сформирована из плоских керамических ребер, каждое из которых имеет размеры около 1 метра шириной и до 2 метров высотой. Выстраиваясь друг за другом, ребра следуют элегантному потоку геометрии. Каждая панель состоит из двух слоев ультра-тонких плиток (3мм) разных оттенков – от белого до черного.

Использование семи цветовых кодов привело к динамичному изменению внешнего вида структуры, реагирующей на изменение места положения смотрящего и освещенность, определяемую временем суток и погодными условиями.

Таким образом, инсталляция преобразовала двор университета в футуристическое пространство, которое постоянно меняет свои форму и цвет, в зависимости от различных точек зрения и объективных обстоятельств. Серия люминесцентных ламп Algoritmo, изготовленных итальянской компанией Artemide, призвана распространять свет от центра к краям старинного двора и служит связующим звеном между жесткой декартовой геометрией старого и линейной текучестью нового.

È firmata da Zaha Hadid Architects l’installazione con cui Lea Ceramica partecipa alla mostra evento Interni Mutant Architecture&Design ideata dal mensile Interni in occasione di Milano Capitale del Design® 2011 (11-17 aprile 2011).

Protagonista dell’installazione Lea Slimtech, la lastra dallo spessore ultrasottile (soli 3mm) e dal grande formato (fino a 3m x 1m): nel cortile settecentesco, uno degli spazi più suggestivi dell’Università degli Studi di Milano, le lastre daranno vita ad una struttura tridimensionale interamente realizzata in grès porcellanato, una sorta di vortice, di spazio dinamico in cui si evidenzia l’uso flessibile e non convenzionale di questo innovativo materiale.

Il progetto nasce come interpretazione contemporanea dell’architettura del cortile. A partire dal perimetro dello spazio e seguendo l’ortogonalità delle colonne e delle linee che fluiscono verso il centro, una composizione dinamica crea complesse e sinuose geometrie curvilinee: lastre Slimtech in 7 diversi colori (dal bianco milk al nero black coffee), larghe 1 metro, di diversa altezza fino ad un massimo di 2 metri, ricoprono 800 mq di area. L’installazione trasforma il cortile in uno spazio che muta costantemente forma e colore a seconda delle molteplici prospettive. Tubi fluorescenti di Artemide corrono lunga l’intera struttura illuminando l’architettura e creando un legame tra la rigidità schematica dell’ambiente e la fluidità lineare del progetto.
I visitatori sono invitati ad esplorare l’impatto scultoreo e la dinamica formale dei vari elementi, il puntuale rapporto tra pieni e vuoti, tra il singolo pezzo e il tutto, all’interno di un gioco cromatico tra bianco e nero, presenza e assenza di colore.

Un rimando all’installazione, “Twirl _ The Backstage”, sarà visibile inoltre all’interno di Lea Ceramiche Showroom: lo spazio di via Durini svelerà infatti il backstage della realizzazione del suggestivo progetto.

Infine Twirl sarà visibile nell’ambito dello speciale allestimento che La Rinascente in piazza Duomo, attraverso le sue vetrine, dedicherà alla manifestazione.

Anlässlich der Mailänder Möbelmesse 2011 initiierte die Zeitschrift Interni Mutant Architecture & Design, eine Ausstellung, die auf dem Gelände der Mailänder Universität zu sehen war. Neun Architekten realisierten dort Installationen, die sich leicht aufbauen, bewegen und an anderer Stelle neu zusammensetzen lassen. Eines dieser Werke heißt Twirl und stammt von der Architektin Zaha Hadid. Geschwungene, wandähnliche Elemente wurden in dem 800m² großen Universitätshof aus dem 18. Jahrhundert installiert und bewegten sich – beginnend am Rande des zweigeschossigen Säulengangs – wirbelartig auf den Hofmittelpunkt zu.

Die Dynamik des Wirbels wird durch die Materialität und Form der Elemente unterstützt: Die laminierten Feinsteinzeugplatten sind nur 3 mm dick und verleihen dem räumlichen Gebilde durch ihre variierende Höhe auch in der dritten Dimension ein geschwungenes Aussehen. Das verwendete Material heißt Slimtech und ist das Ergebnis einer Walz- und Presstechnik für Steinzeug. Die Platten sind leicht, großformatig und in verschiedenen Farben erhältlich. Für Twirl wurden 1,00 m breite Platten mit zu 2,00 m Höhe in sieben verschiedenen Farbtönen verwendet.
