あなたの部屋の片隅で沈む太陽。
LEDでできた、まるで沈んでいく夕日のような照明。
名前はサンセットになっていますが、色的には日の出のようにも見えました。
この違いは太陽を赤く描いてしまう日本人の感覚なんですかね。
朝タイマーで照明を点け、日の出とともに起きるみたいなことをしてみても面白いかも?
やさしい、暖かそうな光です。

Non c’è luce che possa vincere il confronto con un tramonto da cartolina. In quell’ora magica che precede il buio, infatti, il Sole è senza dubbio la migliore soluzione di design naturale per illuminare le nostre esistenze.
Ispirandosi a questa suggestione il designer olandese Helmut Smits ha avuto un’idea semplice, ma efficace, per riprodurre l’atmosfera del tramonto nelle stanze di casa. Si chiama Skirting Board Sunset ed è una lampada “battiscopa” che illumina come fossero le 7 del pomeriggio estivo.
Accendendola ci sembrerà di trovarci sulla riva del mare, o affacciati alla sponda di un belvedere.
Unico inconveniente: dato che il tramonto è un po’ “rasoterra”, si apprezza meglio sdraiandosi su un tappeto.

Художественное определение для Японии звучит как Страна восходящего солнца. А Страны заходящего солнца как-то не придумали.
Креативный дизайнер по имени Хельмут Смитс (Helmut Smits) решил, что будет справедливо, если у каждого в доме будет своя такая страна, для чего изобрел оригинальный напольный светильник под названием Skirting Board Sunset.
Полупрозрачный желтый полукруг, этот светильник выглядит как половинка сырной головки, долька мандаринки, полумесяц… Но, согласно авторскому замыслу, это – заходящее солнце.
Вечером светодиодная “начинка” светится, и светильник превращается в половинку солнца, которое уже почти село за горизонт.
А если пол покрыт темным линолеумом или же полированной гладкой плиткой, на нем можно увидеть не лунную, но солнечную дорожку, которая провожает дневное светило на покой – и сразу вспомнить о море, отпуске и романтическом вечере на берегу.
С другой стороны, Skirting Board Sunset может напоминать и восходящее солнце. Особенно, если вставать приходится еще затемно.
Такой домашний рассвет скрасит некомфортное пробуждение и улучшит настроение перед рабочим днем.

Veilleuse munie d’un LED, qui se pose comme une plinthe – c’est d’ailleurs son nom « skirting board sunset » – pour s’endormir en rêvant à de lointains horizons…

足不出户看日落?装个Helmut Smits设计的夜灯就能在家里的地板上看到日落了。看似简单的橙色半圆形壁灯结合反光比较好的地板,一个栩栩如生的日落景象就能在家里欣赏到了~当然我觉得也蛮像日出的。。

Helmut Smits describes himself as a multi-disciplinary visual artist and embraces the full vagueness of this term – not limiting himself to one medium means he’s constantly changing things up, working on a myriad of varying scale projects from furniture and product design to conceptual sculptures and public installations. Since he was last posted, he’s come up with a whole heap of new stuff – as per usual clever observations, commentaries, visual puns, trickery and experiments which not only disrupt our assumptions of objects but assign them new meanings. We caught up with him to talk process.
There’s a sense of playfulness and fun to his art, but he concedes that the working process isn’t always so carefree – it’s not without some artist angst.
“It can be quite a struggle. I believe that every situation, thought or object carries one or more good artworks in itself, so each time it’s a challenge to find that right idea. Even when I already said no to a show or assignment it keeps sticking in my mind. It’s a good thing that it works that way for me, but it also consumes much of my time. ”
His art demonstrates a sharp eye for the minute detail in everyday objects and interesting/humorous happenstance, suggesting he is constantly looking, watching and note-taking. “The best ideas seem to just come at any given moment but I believe they only come when you are in the right state of mind and your brain is working on them without you knowing.”
But of course, as with all creatives, he acknowledges you can’t wait for an idea to hit you on the head and it requires discipline: “mostly just sitting behind my sketchbooks and forcing myself.”
The strength of his portfolio comes from the frank, direct statements he makes. He sidesteps the conceptual art quagmire, which tends to leave people feeling like they’re not quite getting it. His approach, straightforward and honest, is refreshing. “I like working fast so the ideas that are most simple I enjoy doing most.”
Smits’ sculptural pieces are often temporary – created and then captured to exist through the documentation. I wanted to know what happens to the works afterwards and liked the notion of reincarnation in his reply: “I store them, sell them, recycle the materials or just throw them away. In case of the Football Stadium for example the fruit was given to the homeless after the show, the stadium was destroyed and thrown away.”
And, in true Hemut Smits style, he’s turning his hand to something completely new in the coming months.
“Me, my girlfriend and our two kids are going to live in a former school building where 14 other artists also work and live. All the spaces are casco yielded so we have to build in everything ourselves, a lot of work but also a lot of fun.”
No doubt, it will be another outlet and opportunity to creatively play.

Regelmatig probeer ik jullie kunst met een knipoog te laten zien. Vandaag is het tijd voor het werk van Helmut Smits (* 1974). Helmut woont en werkt in Rotterdam. Zijn werk is erg visueel. Hij beperkt zich niet tot een discipline, maar gaat zijn eigen weg. Veel is er over zijn achtergrond niet te vinden, maar wel veel foto’s van zijn werk. Ik wil jullie in twee afleveringen wat van zijn werk laten zien. In dit deel komt zijn zogenaamde ‘public work’ aan bod. Zijn werk in de publieke omgeving, op straat dus. Zelf vind ik het erg grappig.

Lattine che diventano lampade. Ronald MacDonald deceduto. Arcobaleni sui parabrezza. Rotonde infinite. Fontane fatte di piscine per bambini. No, non sono impazzita e non sto giocando al gioco delle associazioni, ma sto descrivendo solo alcuni dei lavori di Helmut Smits (http://helmutsmits.nl/), artista visivo olandese, classe 1974.
Smits è il tipico ironico-ambientalista che attraverso la sua arte vuol far sorridere ma pensare, vuole colpire ma passare inosservato, vuole essere inutile utilizzando oggetti superflui. Insomma un maestro della contraddizione che più coerente di così non si può (mi starà contagiando?).
Consigliato a tutti quelli che quando vedono una bottiglia di vino vuota pensano già a che diventerà il loro prossimo porta candele.
