After graduating Summa Cum Laude from the Columbus College of Art and Design in 2003, Erin Wozniak went on to a summer fellowship at Yale University at Norfolk to study painting. Erin’s work has been seen in group shows in the USA and in juried exhibitions in New Zealand and the USA. She was also included in the prestigious annual BP Portrait Awards Exhibition in 2009 and 2012 at the National Portrait Gallery in London, England. Her work offers private moments of introspection and contemplation. According to the artist, “My artwork searches for meaning and beauty in the everyday. Through obsessive rendering and careful, deliberate composing of domestic imagery, my drawings and paintings become meditations on motherhood, familial relationships, and time. I attempt to create metaphorically open imagery that speaks about our shared experiences as human beings.”

My work attempts to explore the physical and psychological relationships between one’s self and the external world and examine the relationships that exist between people. The human body is of interest to me because it is the interface of interaction between subject and object, self and other, inside and outside. Marked by personal histories and time and molded by the society and culture in which it exists, the body is something we all share as a vehicle for experiencing the world. Through obsessive rendering and careful, deliberate composing, I try to evoke a sense of human connection and vulnerability in my work. By using the topography of the body, I hope to create metaphorically open imagery that speaks about our shared experiences as human beings.

Permeated with the distance and closeness that exist in everyday moments of intimacy, ERIN WOZNIAK’s oil paintings and graphite drawings offer the opportunity to contemplate human vulnerability. She meticulously renders the surface of the skin and the boundaries between individuals, emphasizing the body as the physical and psychological interface between one’s self and the external world. Erin received her BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio and studied at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She is represented by Hammond Harkins Galleries (Bexley, Ohio), where she most recently exhibited her work in Contemporary Realism: Four Visions. In 2013, her pastel drawing Morning won “Best in Show” in the 71st Annual May Show in North Canton, Ohio. Erin lives and works in Canton, Ohio.
