Human, ultra human or a poetic of deformation? Observing series “Distortions” by young photographer Hickey Heart (23 years old), is like taking a disturbing trip into our online lives 24h/24h, among small epiphanies, existential dilemmas and everyday solitudes.

If she were an artist of the 20th century, Hickey might be part of the Expressionist movement, with her interest for parapsychology, the subconscious and nervous breakdowns that influence her representations of the inner self, through images rich in digital distortions.

As you have probably grasped, Hickey’s interests are not the most cheerful, but they certainly stimulate her in her personal artistic path that is eclectically articulated through photography, painting, illustration, graphics and design.

While mixing her abilities, Hickey seems to want to depict the problems of a young woman in the current era. Cold, opaque digital disturbances seem to be looming over her portraits without a face. If the human figure (identity?) becomes increasingly liquid and evanescent, its beauty and authentic purity, symbolized by a flower, are there to protect it.
