Czech Designer Monika Horčicová has created a skeletal structure using 3D-printed bones made out of plaster composites. Entitled ‘The Wheel of Life’, the sculpture takes inspiration from the infinity symbol. The round shape refers to the cycle of life and death, and the wheel is made of walking legs, representing people in motion.

Each piece in the sculpture was 3D printed and then assembled into a single object.

Monika Horčicová is one of the hottest emerging artists in the Czech Republic. Her work explore themes of infinity; a repeated cycle of conception and death. Rather than looking at bones as a symbol of morbidity, she aims to show them as objects that can be beautiful when we view them properly.

Monika Horčicová is one of the hottest emerging artists in the Czech Republic. Born in Prague, she currently resides in Brno where she studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology under the tutelage of Prof. Michal Gabriel. Her work explore themes of infinity; a repeated cycle of conception and death. Rather than looking at bones as a symbol of morbidity, she aims to show them as objects that can be beautiful when we view them properly.

This piece is the work of Czech Designer Monika Horčicová, who decided to create this piece using a 3d printer. The circular nature of the structure is a symbol of life as well as death, and the legs walking shows man in motion. Take a look at some of the images below. It’s a very intricate, details structure which was put together leg by leg after they were printed out. Monika also uses 3D printing for a variety of other artistic pieces she has made.

The « Wheel of Life » est une œuvre d’art signée par l’artiste tchèque en vue : Monika Horčicová. Un des thèmes de prédilection de l’artiste étant l’infini ; chacun pourra faire le lien avec l’œuvre ci-dessous. Ce qui nous intéresse ici est plutôt l’usage de l’impression 3D puisque chacune des pièces composant « La Roue de la Vie » est bien le fruit d’une imprimante traitant de la résine de polyuréthane (un plastique qu’on retrouve dans les roues de skateboard mais aussi… les préservatifs). On peut aisément apprécier le rendu de chacune des os de jambes ce qui a une importance dans la démarche artistique de Monika Horčicová. Les os servant une représentation morbide, leur réalisme participe au succès de l’effet provoqué. L’oeuvre mesure 55cm de haut sur 59 cm de côté et 15 cm de large.

Beaucoup de créateurs se sont déjà saisis de l’impression 3D mais les purs artistes (pour les différencier des designers qui travaillent des outils fonctionnels et pratiques) sont encore rares. The « Wheel of Life » prouve pourtant la puissance de l’impression 3D à représenter fidèlement et à moindre coût des éléments précis. On peut également penser aux lapins de Ji Lee rendus possibles grâce à un outil capable de reproduire et décliner un même objet à l’identique. Toujours est-il que l’art et l’impression 3D ont en commun de servir des idées au sens large du terme.

Чешский дизайнер Моника Хорчикова (Monika Horčicová) создала необычную 3D-печатную скульптуру из гипса. Вдохновением для скульптуры под названием “Колесо жизни” (“The Wheel of Life”) стал символ бесконечности. Колесо символизирует цикл жизни и смерти, а кости ног, из которых собрано колесо, символизируют движение людей. Каждая часть скульптуры была распечатана на 3D-принтере отдельно, после чего их собрали в единую композицию. Моника Хорчикова – это один из наиболее популярных чешских дизайнеров нового поколения. Ее работы развивают темы бесконечности и непрерывного цикла жизни и смерти. Дизайнер демонстрирует, что кости могут быть не только символом смерти, но и произведением искусства, если правильно их использовать.

La designer Monika Horčicová ha creato una struttura scheletrica utilizzando ossa stampate in 3D realizzate in materiali compositi in gesso. Intitolato ‘La Ruota della Vita’, la scultura prende ispirazione dal simbolo di infinito. La forma rotonda si riferisce al ciclo della vita e della morte, e la ruota è fatta di gambe che camminano, rappresentano le persone in movimento. Ogni pezzo nella scultura è stato stampato in 3D e poi assemblati in un unico oggetto.
