First it happened in the movies. And now a thrill of pleasure could also seize you while you are admiring the “pOrnamental” sculptures, computer-generated 3D sublimations of erotic images, by Bernat Cunì. The new frontiers of technology applied to the porn industry could open up unprecedented scenarios. From holograms to concrete incarnation, starting from 2D photographic subjects. But for the moment let’s let ourselves be surprised by a subtler, more experimental and artistic language. The designer from Barcelona and based in Hong Kong, Bernat Cunì, has in fact transformed pornographic images into 3D sculptures using algorithms. How can you turn a sex scene into sculptures? Cunì reproduced images taken from the Internet on canvas. Then he turned the painting into volumetric data, an architectural skeleton of shapes with the aid of software. “Golden”, “Carnal” and “Fetish” are the three sections of the “pOrnamental” series where every work is named after an anagram of the original title. The “Golden” series has a golden and sparkling patina, “Fetish” calls leather and bondage fantasies to mind, and “Carnal” draws inspiration from the various shades of skin. Much has been produced on the borderline between eroticism, pornography and art. Perhaps a product design concept like Cunì’s was lacking, one where the three elements appear to meld together in a seductive 3D object.
