El estudio multidisciplinar LIKEarchitects ha construido wonderWALL, un escenario temporal para la instalación de almohadillas interactivas llamada The Pool, obra maestra de la artista estadounidense Jen Lewin y que ha recorrido el mundo con éxito. wonderWALL es un espacio expositivo diseñado para recibir la obra de Jen Lewin en Colombo Shopping Mall, en Lisboa, Portugal, construido con aproximadamente con 20.000 tiras de huinchas blancas y negras. El espacio temporal está totalmente suspendido del cielo del hall central y presenta una piel abstracta que oscila con las corrientes de aire creadas por el movimiento de las personas. El espacio cilíndrico pretende subrayar el carácter central de la obra expuesta, realzado por la negación de una entrada principal a favor de una fachada totalmente permeable que disuelve la idea de ”aceso” a lo largo de todo el perímetro del espacio. Para el control de brillo, la obra de Jen Lewin no es visible desde el exterior. Al contrario, el cerramiento se presenta como una gran pantalla tejida circular que destaca el proceso manual que caracteriza la construcción de la cúpula expresada en una superficie textil única.

Sotto il lucernario del Colombo Shopping Mall di Lisbona, LIKEarchitects ha ideato uno spazio espositivo temporaneo per creare The Pool, l’installazione interattiva e luminosa dell’artista Jen Lewin. Lo studio di architettura ha sospeso 20.000 strisce di tessuto bianco e nero da un telaio circolare. Con 14 metri di diametro e 4 metri di altezza, WonderWALL è definita da numerose strisce di tessuto a disposizione radiale, con tattili e penetrabili pareti flessibili,

WonderWALL consente agli spettatori di vedere, dall’esterno, una linea continua di luce colorata emessa dal centro. La copertura si presenta come un grande schermo in tessuto circolare che evidenzia il processo manuale che caratterizza la costruzione dello spazio cupola, evidenziando la sua unica struttura tessile. L’installazione The Pool di Lewin è cosi in grado di realizzare le sue variazioni cromatiche senza il riflesso della luce del centro commerciale.

wonderWALL is an exhibition space designed to receive the masterpiece The Pool by Jen Lewin in Colombo Shopping Mall, in Lisbon, Portugal, built with approximately 20,000 strips of white and black fabric.
The temporary museum is totally suspended from the skylight on the central square and presents an abstract skin which oscillates with airflows created by the movement of people. The cylindrical space seeks to emphasise the centrality of the exposed artwork, enhanced by the abdication of a main entrance in favour of a fully permeable facade that dissolves the entrance along the entire periphery of the space.
For brightness control, the work of Jen Lewin is not visible from the outside. Instead, the coverage presents itself as a large circular weaving screen that highlights the manual process that characterises the construction of this dome space, bringing out a unique textile texture.

LIKEarchitects is a Porto based architecture studio known for its experimental, provocative and innovative nature. Their partners, Diogo Aguiar, João Jesus, and Teresa Otto, have based their practice on the fundamental architectural knowledge that they acquired at the School of Architecture of the University of Porto, as well as their experiences at internationally renowned architectural firms.

This emerging practice strives to create architecture that is not only sensitive to the current socio-economic climate, but also aims to augment spatial experiences, as well as engage the community in critical discourse. Using installation, urban art and spontaneous happenings as their primary medium, LIKEarchitects have activated the urban setting whilst engaging the community in a critical architectural dialogue.
