هنرمند بریتانیایی لیز وست، کارهایش را با نورپردازی فضاهای معماری ارائه میکند. آخرین اثر او که “ادراک رنگی شما” نام دارد در کاسل فیلد گالری در منچستر به نمایش درآمده است. در این نمایشگاه گستره رنگی درخشانی از نورها به نمایش گذاشته شده است و بازدید کنندگان در گالری غرق از زیبایی رنگین میشوند.

Un arc-en-ciel est un phénomène optique et météorologique rendant visible le spectre continu de la lumière du ciel quand le soleil brille alors qu’il pleut.
L’artiste britannique Liz West, spécialiste du light-art, a choisi d’interroger nos perceptions des couleurs en créant un gigantesque arc-en-ciel d’intérieur.
En inondant de couleurs une pièce de 500 mètres carrés au 4ème étage de la Castlefield Gallery’s New Art Spaces Federation House de Manchester, l’installation Your Colour Perception immerge le public dans un univers multicolore et bigarré, saturé de lumière.

Liz West es una artista nacida en Manchester, Inglaterra, que convirtió la “Castlefield Gallery Federation House” en una gran extensión cromática luminosa que asemeja ser un arco iris reflejado en las paredes y el piso.
La artista inglesa ha utilizado lámparas fluorescentes, gel especial y pinturas artificiales de diferentes colores para poder completar su proyecto llamado “Your Colour Perception”.
Liz West hizo que las luces fluorescentes se reflejen en la pintura especial con la que cubrió las diferentes partes del lugar, para así lograr una espectacular percepción de los colores. Todo esto se logró en dicho espacio que tiene un área de 5,000 metros cuadrados.

Your Colour Perception incorporated all 5000 square feet of Castlefield Gallery’s New Art Spaces Federation House fourth floor in Manchester. The work was developed in direct response to the space prior. West reacted to the architectural space using colour and light to create vast immersive installation art.
Within this work, West was interested in the influence and perception of luminous colour in architectural space and on visitors experiencing it. West transformed Federation House into a sensory, visceral experience by overloading it with artificial chromatic light in which to test the psychological, physical, emotional and spiritual responses visitors experience during their encounter.
This work utilises the darkness outside to raise the strength of the illumination and colouration in the work. Using this enormous space to install a light work in the darkest Winter months allowed the colour to bleed with more saturation than if displayed any other time of the year.

Liz West creates vivid environments that mix luminous colour and radiant light. Working across a variety of mediums, West aims to provoke a heightened sensory awareness in the viewer through her works. She is interested in exploring how sensory phenomena can invoke psychological and physical responses that tap into our own deeply entrenched relationships to colour. West’s investigation into the relationship between colour and light is often realised through an engagement between materiality and a given site.
Within physical and architectural space, West uses light as a material that radiates outside of its boundaries and containers. She playfully refracts light through using translucent, transparent or reflective materials, directing the flow of artificial light. Our understanding of colour can only be realised through the presence of light. By playing and adjusting colour, West brings out the intensity and composition of her spatial arrangements. These ephemeral interventions forge new spaces and environments, from flooding a physical site with a rich mixture of light to using colour to disrupt the white flatness of paper.
West revels in experimentation. Surrounding herself with an array of materials, she utilizes both her studio and the sites that she exhibits as test beds for a process of experimentation. Objects are ordered and classified. Series of works are created and reproduced in different ‘mixes’. Patterns are tested and repeated. This fast paced development of ideas is well documented by West, who often uses photographs to shape the direction of her sculptures and installations. These images are like studies: they suggest ideas for more developed works but are intimate works in their own right. Photography allows her to quickly create multiple and sequential colour arrangements. This process is rooted in West’s long-standing relationship with collecting and cataloguing.
These studies have led to the development of works that saturate a space with a single colour. By limiting her use of materials, West simultaneously challenges herself to focus on arrangements rather than an array of colours. In a recent series of spatial light works based on research into colour theory and light fields she has transformed architectural spaces.
