デリケートでしなやかな肉体と、冷たい堅い鉄のコントラストが非常に強烈な視覚効果を生み出しています。女性の肢体に重い装備の装着させることは、強さと同時に甘美さをも強調させるのです。
新たな世紀、新人類、新たなパワー、そして新たな刺激の出現を宣言していると考え、表現する中で、男女が同権であるシュールな世界を創り出すことを意図しています。

Fan Xiaoyan è una giovane artista cinese di 27 anni che è stata particolarmente influenzata, nelle sue “cybernetics girls”, dall’immaginario cyberpunk, ed in particolare dalla fusione uomo-macchina (Terminator e Robocop compresi).
“L’arrivo di una nuova era, un nuovo tipo di essere umano, un nuovo potere, una nuova sensazione… un mondo virtuale e surreale in cui uomini e donne sono uguali”.
Questo, secondo l’artista, sarebbe ciò che le sue opere rappresentano.

Realizzati i manichini femminili, spogliati di ogni abito, Fan Xiaoyan si è poi dedicata agli “innesti” meccanici sul corpo delle sue “cybernetics girls”. Armi, utensili e lastre metalliche. La macchina si fonde con il corpo nudo dei manichini, rendendo quasi inutile ogni differenza di gender.

ли у вас скопилось несколько ненужных манекенов и куча металлолома, китайский скульптор Fan Xiaoyan рекомендует соорудить из этого что-то такое же бесполезное. Fan Xiaoyan is a sculptor who works in metals and plastics, creating scenes of bionic strength and surreal feminine. Her series of bionic barbies are representations of futuristic women who partake in society’s most manly arts; but have their robotic limbs freed them or imprisoned them? Are their poses and nudity porn-y, or is that just my programmed mind? I don’t know, to tell you the truth. I know when I look at her sculpture directly below, “This is Just a Legend,” I see women straining to prop up the masculine myth, doing their best to hold up the phallic fable that makes strength, perseverance and rationality inherently male traits. After all, isn’t that what we do? We suffer abuse and pain to continue our species, and the vast majority of us (with the exception of 99% of the women you see on TV) take it, say nothing, and journey on in our lives. When society tells us men are strong and we are weak, many of us nod our heads and push out babies bathed in blood and life, too tired to argue. Work like Fan Xiaoyan’s reminds us of our struggle, and paints a future where we are the ones riding on tanks,strapped to the gills. But not literally – our weapons are a part of our bodies and minds. Hopefully we don’t need to kill and maim to get there, but I’m not ruling it out.

Fan Xiaoyan is a sculptor originally born in Gaomi, China, but now, lives and works in the country’s capital, Beijing.

Xiaoyan describes her work as “the arrival of a new era, a new kind of human being, a new power, a new sensation… a surrealistic virtual world in which men and women are equal”.

Xiaoyan combines soft, warm flesh against cold, hard steel to strike up a deep contrast in her work to engage her viewers on a visual and psychological level.

Venimos un poquito formales con el arte últimamente, vamos a condimentar un poco el asunto, y si de bizarreadas se trata nada mejor que recurrir a los japos o a los chinos que como todo el mundo sabe, están totalmente locos. Hace tiempo que no vemos esculturas e instalaciones, y hace tiempo que no inquietamos … pues bien, sepan que esta camada contemporánea de escultores chinos no descansa, y mientras yo los entretengo con Picasso y Van Gogh, ellos siguen pariendo arte inquietante de entre sus tripas para seguir enbizarrando al mundo.
