known for their kinetic artworks and interactive installations, london-based studio rAndom international take over paris’ carpenters workshop gallery with ‘before the rain’, an exhibition which provides a survey of the collective’s practice since they first started in 2005. the show chronicles the studio’s shift in focus – from their initial days of inception to the present – from the object to the experience, in which older works are presented alongside new projects at an extent never before seen.
‘an awful lot happens without people being aware. they come to certain conclusions and even performs actions without ever really, consciously considering why. this is what forms both the impetus and the investigation of the studio’s work; we experiment. we attempt to simulate the natural by reducing the subtleties of behaviour down to the minimum required for recognition to explore our own, human, existence.‘ -random international

‘future self’ is a study in human movement. the installation captures movement in light to create a three dimensional ‘living sculpture’ based on the composite gestures surrounding it, mirroring the actions of those who pass around it. entirely hand-made, 30,000 LED lights line the brass rods which are arranged to create a structure reminiscent of a rectangular prism, 3D cameras record people’s motions which are expressed through a ghostly, illuminated image, constantly changing.

Criada pelo coletivo artístico Random-international, “Future Self” é uma instalação de luz performativa que funciona como uma escultura viva reproduzindo os movimentos do corpo usando as luzes de mais de 10.000 leds e câmeras 3d instaladas em uma estrutura de grades de metal.

Random-international é um coletivo artístico, baseado em Londres, criado em 2002 por Stuart Wood, Flo Ortkrass and Hannes Koch.
O projeto foi exibido pela primeira vez, através de um espetáculo de dança criado por meio de uma colaboração do coletivo com o coreógrafo Wayne McGregor e o compositor Max Richter. A apresentação foi executada pelos bailarinos Fukiko Takase e Alexander Whitley na exposição MADE que ocorre em Berlim.
Em seguida “Future Self” passou a funcionar dentro do espaço expositivo como uma instalação participativa aberta ao público, permitindo que todas as informações sejam gravadas e armazenadas num computador, viabilizando a reprodução posterior das informações de movimentos dos corpos.

Random Internationals verk har under senare år fått stor uppmärksamhet och återfinns i flera offentliga och privata samlingar runt om i världen. Installationen Rain Room visades först på Barbican Centre i London 2012 och sedan på MoMA New York 2013. Verk av Random International har också visats på RuhrTriennale 2013, på Victoria and Albert Museum i London, 4:e Moskvabiennalen för samtida konst, The Welcome Trust i London och i många andra sammanhang. Studion har ett långvarigt samarbete med Wayne McGregor | Random Dance.
