Created at the Museum of Plaster Casts at University of Heidelberg, 2010, these interventions reframe famous classical statues and draw attention to their verisimiltude, presence and erotic charge. Lang explores the power of the figurative sculpture in this as in many other projects, its use as a tool for propaganda or political power. Her work with ancient statues draws attention to the object itself, which emerges from their original use and purposes as a thing in itself, through the passage of time.

Liane Lang studied at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin and completed a BA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London followed by a Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Academy Schools, where she graduated in 2006. She has exhibited widely both in the UK and internationally, including the Royal Academy of Art in London, Musée de Beaux Arts Calais, PS1 New York and Kunstverein Heidelberg. She won the Photofusion Award, the Tooth Travel Award at Goldsmiths College and the Cheneviere Prize at the Royal Academy Schools. She was recently shortlisted for the Cointreau Creative Crew and the Young Masters Art Prize. Her work is held in numerous prestigious collections, such as Arts Council England, Royal Academy of Arts, the Saatchi Collection, Deutsche Bank, Kunstverein Bregenz, Ernst and Young and the Collection of the Kunstamt Spandau, Berlin.

Nacida en Alemania pero viviendo en Londres, estudió en NCAD en Dublín y se licenció en Bellas Artes en Goldsmiths College. Luego obtuvo un Diploma de Postgrado en la Royal Academy, donde se graduó en 2006.

Su trabajo se centra en las nociones de animacidad que investiga a través de la escultura, fotografía y vídeo. Liane examina los objetos museísticos y las biografías que intentan narrar, los modos de exposición y la verosimilitud en los objetos de arte, particularmente en las esculturas figurativas y los monumentos políticos.

Los proyectos recientes han incluido residencias en Hungría y Letonia, donde el artista utilizó la fotografía y la animación para escenificar intervenciones con monumentos de la era socialista.
