Frederik Heyman

CEREMONIAL FORMALITY
Frederik Heyman’s work is a balancing act incorporating multiple media – including video, installations and photogaphy – often in a digitally altered environment. In his work, Heyman explores memory and duration, using photogrammetry and 3D scanning to depict and represent the passage of time. The hallmarks of Heyman’s work are mechanical and technological: wires, wheels, scrolling LED marquees, metal frames, clamps, industrial lights, screens and cameras. Bodies–as opposed to humans–are subject to unusual dynamics with these technological trappings. In Ceremonial Formality (2020) a contortionist is encased in a metal cage while a spectator, hooked up to wires, looks on.

Clothing Hangers A+B
Anatomical forms surgically reconfigured as surrogates for the human body. The contortion is forced by medical instruments constraining the body, pinning it into a stabilized functional object. Each hanger is calibrated to the appropriate size of the clothing it carries for a custom fit. The body is constructed of a solid silicone composite form and surgical steel hardware. This hanger was created as an element of a larger project.

The central theme of artist Florian Hafele, born 1979, is the observation of the body, which reflects many questions about our social environment and its related phenomena. Hafele’s work translates into sculptures of deformed creatures, human as well as object, which develop a multi-interpretable essence through various contortions.

Hafele’s work translates into sculptures of deformed creatures, human as well as object, which develop a multi-interpretable essence through various contortions. Embracing this aspect a variety of his works deal with performance in our social environment like the “Champion” which is a synonym for the over-strained human, in an achievement oriented society, or the exhausted tools which treat themselves to a break.

Purity
Ball’s portraits are marked by a kind of hyper-compressed energy and visceral intensity that sends your mind reeling. Your thoughts vacillate between the likeness of the sitter, the aesthetic qualities of the stone, and the odd contortions of the form — even though you are completely baffled about how these objects came into existence. more
