Невообразимые «природные» работы британского художника Энди Голдсуорти. Он считается одним из самых выдающихся мастеров land-art искусства в мире. Свою первую выставку он представил в 24-года и с тех пор продолжает непрерывно творить на выбранном поприще.

Его произведения всегда появляется в единственном экземпляре и вскоре под действием сил природы пропадают. Оценить творчество Энди Голдсуорти широкой публике можно только благодаря фотоиллюстрациям в авторских книгах.

Nacido en Cheshire, Inglaterra en 1956. Desde finales de los setenta Goldsworthy se ha dedicado casi exclusivamente al landart, esto es, ha usado la propia naturaleza manipulada por el como obra de arte, manejando despues como testimonio la fotografia realizada tras sus intervenciones, Goldsworthy es uno de los pocos artistas que no hace trabajar a otros sobre su proyecto en el paisaje sino que interviene con sus propias manos en actuaciones muy monumentales. Ha viajado mucho por America, Europa, Japon y Australia, el sentido del lugar es trascendental en sus obra, se podria decir que es lo mas importante, porque aunque sea de manera provisional su objetivo es modificar el entorno.

Le interesa tambien la esencia cambiante del paisaje por la luz o el clima por ejemplo, los propios materiales de su obra tambien pueden ser afectados por el cambio hielo, arena, hojas o nieve son algunos de sus materiales favoritos, la mayoria de sus esculturas tienen que ser realizadas y documentadas en el mismo dia por su caracter efimero, a veces no solo en el mismo dia sino en el fugaz instante en que la obra “tiene lugar” como cuando fotografia agua o arena lanzada en el aire, de modo que su obra tiene tambien algo de action art.

La inestabilidad de la naturaleza es su mayor atractivo tanto en los colores como en las formas, Goldsworthy es famoso por sus actuaciones con formas constantemente presentes en la naturaleza pero a nivel molecular por lo tanto imperceptibles para el ojo humano, actua sobre la naturaleza con las que son sus formas elementales sacando a la luz en cierta manera la esencia interna de todas las cosas. Para dar una dimension temporal a su trabajo aparte de su transitoriedad usa la seriacion, otra manera de actuar de la naturaleza, la repeticion por patrones como si las obras de arte se pudieran producir a modo de fractales.

Andy Goldsworthy is an extraordinary, innovative British artist whose collaborations with nature produce uniquely personal and intense artworks. Using a seemingly endless range of natural materials—snow, ice, leaves, bark, rock, clay, stones, feathers petals, twigs—he creates outdoor sculpture that manifests, however fleeting, a sympathetic contact with the natural world. Before they disappear, or as they disappear, Goldsworthy, records his work in suburb color photographs.

Goldsworthy deliberately explores the tension of working in the area where he finds his materials, and is undeterred by changes by changes in the weather which may melt a spectacular ice arch or wash away a delicate structure of grasses. The intention is not to “make his mark” on the landscape, but rather to work with it instinctively, so that a delicate scene of bamboo or massive snow rings or a circle of leaves floating in a pool create a new perception and an ever growing understanding of the land.

Andy Goldsworthy was born in Cheshire, England, in 1956 and currently resides in Scotland. He studied at Bradford School of Art and Preston Polytechnic and has been making art in the environment, both rural and urban, since the mid-1970s. He is an Andrew D. White Professor at Cornell University. Over the past 25 years, Goldsworthy has gained a significant reputation for both his ephemeral works and his permanent installations that draw out the endemic character of a place. The artist works with natural materials, such as leaves, sand, ice, and stone that often originate from the local site.

Goldsworthy has produced more than 70 exhibitions and projects all over the world including those in the Canadian Arctic; Digne, France; the streets of London; and Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. In addition, he has made temporary museum installations at the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles (1997); The Metropolitan Museum or Art (2004), New York; and The Tate, Liverpool (2004), among others. Goldsworthy’s other large-scale installations in the United States include Garden of Stones (2003, Museum of Jewish Heritage, New York); Three Cairns (2001-2003, Des Moines Art Center, Iowa); Neuberger Cairn (2001, Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase, New York); West Coast Cairn (2002, Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego); Stone River (2001, Stanford University, Palo Alto, California); and Storm King Wall (1999, Storm King Art Center, Mountainville, New York). All of these large-scale commissioned works have their origins in ephemeral works.

Andy Goldsworthy réalise des sculptures éphémères, qui ne survivent parfois que quelques jours, voire quelques heures, à partir de matériaux trouvés dans la nature, notamment la glace, les pierres, les feuilles, le sable, l’argile, la mousse, les fougères, le bois ou les fleurs, etc.

La plupart du temps, Andy Goldsworthy n’a pas d’idée précise de son prochain projet et se laisse guider par la nature au gré de ses déambulations. Les formes créées sont souvent fabriquées autour d’objets naturels comme un arbre ou un rocher. Ses projets artistiques le mènent dans le monde entier, mais c’est dans la lande écossaise autour du village de Dunfriesshire, où il vit, qu’il tire son inspiration.

ゴールズワージーが作る作品は素材がすべて自然物、石、植物の花や枝や葉や茎、氷などだ。しかもそれらをつかって、絶えず変化する自然の中に、海、川、湖、森などに長い長い時間をかけて作品を作る。汀で積み上げていた石が途中で崩れてしまうなどというアクシデントが起こり、満潮までに間に合わないかもしれないという時間との戦いも作品の一部である。しかも、首尾よく作品が完成したとしても、当然時間の経過につれて、それらの作品は流されたり、満潮時に波間に消えたり、氷の作品の場合は解けたりする。つまり消滅する。一種の時間芸術でもある。だから、彼の作品の実物を見るには、ある限られた時間内に現場に行かなくてはならない。それが出来る人は限られる。そこで彼は作品をすべて写真に収め、何冊も写真集を出している。まるで古代の遺跡、遺物の記録のようでさえある。

『RIVERS AND TIDES』を見るたびに、皮相な芸術的模倣からは限りなく遠い場所で、自然の変化や循環の相を深く深く模倣しようと試みる、自然との儚く脆いバランスの限界を探究する彼の姿勢に深く共感すると同時に、ちょっと嫉妬もし、真似したいとも思う。いつの間にか荒んだ心が癒される。もしかしたら、私は写真などを通してゴールズワージーの一種の真似をしているところがあるのかもしれないと思う。アンディ・ゴールズワージーの作品は、人間が作るもの、人工物の宿命を、もっとも雄弁にしかも美しい形で表現することにも成功していると感じる。
