The non-automotive art is often compelling. Jim Drain and Ara Peterson’s Pinwheels is both steampunk and of the moment. The op art disks rotate, powered by bargain-store breeze boxes. It’s also a relational aesthetics piece where the eye candy baits the trap. People standing in front of the art to take photos are traditionally considered a minor museum annoyance. Here they become part of the (salon) machine.

La obra de Jim Drain (Cleveland, Ohio, 1975) es una compleja madeja donde confluyen avatares históricos, culturales y personales. Con tan sólo 35 años, este versátil creador ha participado en eventos cruciales como The Whitney Biennial (en el 2002, en tanto miembro del colectivo Forcefield) y la séptima Biennale de Art Contemporain de Lyon (2008). Su obra forma parte de la colección del Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) y en el 2005 el artista recibió el prestigioso premio The Baloise Art, que se ofrece con carácter anual durante Art Basel, Suiza.
