In the evocative setting of the Cloister of Bramante, from July 7th to 10th, a new project created by DOUBLE STUDIO came to life: NU:S. An extraordinary and engaging installation, which examines the contamination between Fashion and Architecture and attempts to break the mold of the Roman art scene taking advantage of the important creative contribution of young and talented members of Made in Italy: the architects Arturo Tedeschi (computational designer and author of the bestselling “Parametric Architecture with Grasshopper”) and Maurizio Degni; the fashion designers Flavia Migani, Simone Bruno, Chiara Cola, and Alessio Spinelli (shoe designer winner of the 2011 Who’s On Next in Accessories category).
The concept and the creative direction are the undertaking of Antonella Buono. The result is a harmonious work that merges the individual disciplines while respecting their identities creating an innovative expressive manifesto, thanks to the use of a revolutionary architectural language: the parametricism, a paradigm which utilises digital models generated through new techniques computer programming. The installation consists of four dresses, complete with accessories, which are located within a parametric framework in constant dialogue with the exhibition space, involving the audience in a multidisciplinary learning process. The installation soundtrack was composed by Davide Severi, a talented musician with a substantial knowledge of reinassance music and strong digital music background. The entire creative process has been documented thanks to the images and videos produced by Francesco Ricci Lotteringi.
“NU:S” is a project behest by DOUBLE: A young company based in Rome, which is interested in the interplay of diverse contemporary art form. DOUBLE is: Maria Rosaria Melia, Antonella Buono and Benedicta Mariani, who work together in support of innovative cultural phenomena. “We believe we have the task ok maintaining Italian excellence by fuelling research, expecially now, in this current unstable economic climate, when market pressures threaten this possibility. For this reason, the designers were offered a metaphorical artistic residence where DOUBLE provided all of them economic and logistic tools to develop their own projects. In this way the artists were able to feel free to create and experiment with new forms of expression within the correct cultural context.

Arturo Tedeschi (1979), architect, independent researcher and computational designer, since 2004 complemented professional practice in Italy with a personal research on parametric design, focusing on relationships between architecture and new design tools. In 2010 he published “Parametric Architecture with Grasshopper”, a bestseller book on parametric design, now in its second edition and translated in english. In the same year he has cooperated with Zaha Hadid Architects in London. In 2011 he founded A > T a cloud based office which collaborate with talented architects, designers and artists. He’s currently director and teacher of a series of workshops on parametric design and he has been an invited lecturer at universities and conferences. From 2012 he is co-director, with Lorenzo Vianello, of the AA Rome Visiting School for the Architectural Association School (London). In 2012 he designed, with Maurizio Degni, a parametric installation within the Cloister of Bramante, in Rome, for the NU:S project by Double agency. Within the same event has been involved – together with Maurizio Degni – in the computational design of the celebrated NU:S Parametric Shoes (shoe design by Alessio Spinelli), a project that pushed-up the boundaries of 3D printing applied to fashion design.
