Inspired by the futuristic and intriguing world of the Disney film “TRON:Legacy”, the Tron Armchair is a profoundly material product whose features bring to mind the rugged and rocky landscape which surrounds the digital world of TRON. Produced using the roto-moulding technique, made from 100% recyclable material, it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Natural elements inspire the colour palette: the dark grey of the “stone” and the white of the “air” represent the landscape of Tron and the Safe House, while the light blue of the “water” and the green of the “grass” represent the real world. In balance between art and design, Dror Bershetrit from 2002 deals with product design, architecture and art direction mixing the technique learned at the Design Academy of Eindhoven and the taste for arts that derives him from his studies at the Center for Art Education of Tel Aviv. ‘Tron’ chair by Dror Benshetrit 2010

In Cappellini’s and Walt Disney Signature’s latest collaboration, the captivatingly imaginative world of Disney’s film TRON: Legacy has inspired designer Dror Benshetrit to create a uniquely original range of sculptural armchairs.

Paying homage to the Outlands terrain in TRON: Legacy, the chairs reflect a bleak and rugged panorama beyond the sleek and ordered lines of “The Grid”, which forms the central setting for the digital world of TRON. Raw data forms a jagged and angular landscape, serving as a muse for an armchair that is comprised of intersecting layers and textures of “digital” rock. Constructed out of 100% recycled roto-moulded plastic, with varying textural surfaces, the TRON Armchair invites you to “sit off the grid”.

To turn Dror’s design into a finished product, Cappellini has extensively developed the manufacture techniques involved to form the many irregular facets of the chair with a seamless finish, creating an imposing and monolithic shape. Entirely made of recycled plastic (linear polyethylene), the finished product provides excellent resistance to weathering. The rotational technique allows for large-scale production and the implementation of different textures and colours on the chair’s surface.

An aluminium mould is rotated in variable directions around both a primary and secondary axis. With two movements of rotation, the plastic materials are evenly distributed into a smooth and extremely durable shell structure.

A futurística poltrona é realizada sob supervisão da Walt Disney Signature e não por acaso: é totalmente inspirada pelo próximo evento cinematográfico, “TRON: Legacy“. As linhas do terreno, aquele digital às margens do mundo virtual do filme, se apresentam nas linhas da peça criada pelo Studio Dror. Não serão publicadas uma igual à outra, cada poltrona é única, com acabamento feito à mão, em material composto por fibra de vidro impregnada com resina de poliéster e tratata manualmente. A poltrona será apresentada oficialmente hoje, no Design Miami 2010, dentro do espaço de exposição da Cappellini/Poltrona Frau, que deve colocar a poltrona no mercado. No ano que vem, será comercializada uma versão em plástico, completamente reciclado e modelado em rotomoldagem.

Zuletzt zeigten wir den vom Disneyfilm inspirierten Sessel TRON für Cappellini, jetzt haben sich auch die US-Motorradbauer Parker Brothers Choppers an die Umsetzung der düsteren Geschichte in Form des Lightcycles gemacht. Die auf Unikate spezialisierte Motorradwerkstatt Parker Brothers Chopper hat sich bei seinem Design vom Lightcyle inspirieren lassen. Das von den Tron-Legacy-Lightcycles inspirierte Motorrad bekommt viel Aufmerksamkeit – die Parker-Brüder werden damit zur Tron-Premiere kommen. Das futuristisch anmutende Motorrad beherbergt einen 1.000-Kubik-V2-Motor von Suzuki, kann anstelle der klassischen Armatur auch ein iPad zur rein digitalen Instrumentendarstellung nutzen und erfordert wie im Film eine liegende Position. Parker Brothers Choppers baut zehn der Motorräder – die Käufer sollen dafür 55.000 US-Dollar bezahlen. Der Großteil der als straßentauglich zugelassenen Zweiräder soll bereits reserviert worden sein. Bereits im ersten Tron-Film von 1982 tauchten die Lightcycles auf, für den Nachfolgerfilm Tron: Legacy entwarf der Fahrzeugdesigner Daniel Simon eine modernisierte, deutlich schnittigere Version. In Deutschland wird Tron: Legacy erst im Januar 2011 in die Kinos kommen. Wer lieber weniger rasant unterwegs ist – und trotzdem TRON-Fan, für den haben wir vor einiger Zeit bereits den TRON-Sesselvon Cappellini vorgestellt.

Этой весной фабрика Cappellini и компания Walt Disney Signature представили в Милане «мультяшные» новинки (см. «Микки-мебель» от 28.04.2010). А на прошедшей недавно выставке Design Miami показали кресло «из фильма». Модель Tron создана по мотивам фантастического фильма «Трон: Наследие» (Tron: Legacy), который буквально через несколько дней появится на экранах кинотеатров. Кресло разработано дизайнером Дрором Беншетритом (Dror Benshetrit). Оно имеет угловатые очертания и словно составлено из нагромождённых друг на друга блоков: дань футуристическим пейзажам фильма. Материалом послужили стеклопластик и полиэфирная смола. Декоративных полосы нанесены лично дизайнером. По цвету они напоминают светящуюся отделку костюмов персонажей картины. Модель обещают запустить в производство в следующем году и представить широкой публике на выставке Salone del Mobile – 2011.
