Cornelia Klein wurde 1957 in Landshut/Bayern geboren. Sie arbeitet seit 1985 als Keramikerin, seit dem Jahr 2000 als freischaffende Künstlerin.

Nach dreijähriger Lehrzeit (1982-85) in einer Keramikwerkstatt in Nürnberg eröffnete sie mit dem Keramiker Klaus Dorrmann ein eigenes Studio in der Alten Schule in Wohlbach bei Coburg. Diese Zusammenarbeit endete im Jahr 2000.

Von 1997 bis 2000 erfüllte Cornelia Klein einen Lehrauftrag an der Akademie fuer Gestaltung und Denkmalpflege in Ebern/Franken.

Zwischen 1999 und 2001 unterrichtete sie in den Sommermonaten in “La Meridiana”, Centro Internazionale d’Arte Ceramica in Certaldo/Italien.

2001 ließ sie sich in Florenz nieder, wo sie seitdem lebt und arbeitet.

Ganz in der Tradition des Bauhauses war mein beruflicher Ausgangspunkt die “Werkstatt”, das Erlernen eines Handwerks.

Am Anfang stand das Gefäss, als Material: der Ton. Die jahrelange praktische und gedankliche Auseinandersetzung mit Formgebung, der Schaffung von Innen- und Aussenräumen führte mich zur Skulptur, genauer gesagt zur architektonischen Skulptur. Des weiteren entstanden zwei- und dreidimensionale Wandarbeiten mit unterschiedlichen Thematiken sowie Installationen, deren hängende Elemente durch Luftbewegung gläserne Klänge erzeugen.

Hauptakteur: Porzellan, dessen Farbe, Reinheit, Transparenz und Härte meinen Arbeiten ihren ganz eigenen Charakter verleihen. Seine materialspezifische Anwendung führte mich konsequent zu einer reduzierten Formensprache.

Mein Arbeitskonzept beinhaltet die Auseinandersetzung mit Kontrasten: Schwarz/Weiss, Licht/Schatten, Bewegung/Statik, Raum/Leere, Klang/Stille. Die Ausgewogenheit dieser Gegensätze und die Schaffung eines Spannungsverhältnisses zwischen diesen Kontrasten steht im Mittelpunkt meiner Arbeit.

Cornelia Klein nasce in Germania e dal 1985 è scultrice ceramista. Dopo la formazione professionale in ceramica a Norimberga, apre uno studio vicino a Coburgo con lo scultore ceramista Klaus Dorrmann, con il quale collabora fino al 2000.
Dal 1997 al 2000 insegna alla Akademie für Gestaltung und Denkmalpflege ad Ebern.
Negli anni 1999-2001 collabora a Certaldo con il Centro Internazionale d’Arte Ceramica “La Meridiana”.
Dal 2001 vive e lavora a Firenze.
Numerose le mostre personali e collettive alle quali partecipa in Italia e in Germania.

Cornelia Klein was born in Landshut/Germany in 1957. She has worked as a ceramic artist since 1985.

She opened her first studio in 1986 after a three year apprenticeship in a Nuremberg ceramic-atelier. The studio, situated within an old school near Coburg, operated as a cooperative with ceramic artist Klaus Dorrmann until 2000.

From 1997 to 2000, Klein taught ceramic arts at the Akademie fuer Gestaltung und Denkmalpflege at Ebern/Germany.

In the summers from 1999 to 2001, she collaborated with the Centro Internazionale d’Arte Ceramica “La Meridiana” in Certaldo/Italy including course instruction.

In 2001, Klein permanently transferred to Florence/Italy, where she lives and works.

My professional starting point was the world of craft born in the Bauhaus tradition.

In the beginning there was the vessel, its form and material – the clay. Being engaged for years with the production of objects, with the creation of forms, their inside and outside space —in a practical and mental way—I was led to sculpture; sculpture that is connected to the language of architecture. Gradually two and three-dimensional wallworks emerged regarding multiple subjects along with installations constructed of fragments moving in the air creating glass-like sounds.

Porcelain is my material protagonist. It embues my work with its special characteristics of color, purity, translucency and hardness. These qualities, unique to porcelain, induce a certain reductive sense: a rarefied and essential language.

The content of my work focuses on contrasts: black and white, light and shadow, movement and stasis, sound and silence and, the sculptural concepts of space and emptiness. Keeping a certain tension between these contrasts while simultaneously revealing interstitial harmonies is a central theme in my work.

Cornelia Klein nasce in Germania a Landshut/Baviera nel 1957. E’ scultrice ceramista dal 1985.

Nel 1986, dopo tre anni di formazione professionale in un laboratorio di ceramica a Norimberga apre uno studio nei locali di una vecchia scuola vicino a Coburgo insieme con lo scultore ceramista Klaus Dorrmann. Collaborano fino al 2000.

Dal 1997 al 2000 è docente al Akademie fuer Gestaltung und Denkmalpflege ad Ebern/Norimberga.

Negli anni tra il 1999 e il 2001 nella stagione estiva collabora con il Centro Internazionale d’Arte Ceramica “La Meridiana” a Certaldo/Siena e svolge anche attività di insegnamento.

Nel 2001 si trasferisce definitivamente in Italia, a Firenze, dove vive e lavora.

Il mio punto di partenza è stato il mondo dei laboratori nati dalla tradizione del Bauhaus.

All’inizio c’era il vaso, la sua forma e la sua materia: l’argilla. Occuparsi per anni della creazione manuale di oggetti studiando le forme assunte dallo spazio interno ed esterno, mi ha portato verso la scultura. Una scultura essenzialmente architettonica. Sono nati poi lavori da parete bi- e tridimensionali con tematiche diverse e anche installazioni che danno voce alla materia, scomponendola in frammenti che mossi dall’aria sviluppano suoni particolari.

Protagonista la porcellana, che con il suo colore, con la sua purezza, trasparenza e durezza dà il proprio carattere a questi lavori. Usarne le qualità specifiche, mi ha portato naturalmente verso un linguaggio essenziale.

Il mio concetto di lavoro riguarda i contrasti: bianco e nero, luce e ombra, movimento e stasi, spazio e vuoto, rumore e silenzio. Trovare una giusta tensione fra l’uno e l’altro e creare un’armonia fra questi estremi è il centro della mia ricerca.
