An artist in the Netherlands has created an incredibly beautiful tribute to Vincent van Gogh — an illuminated bike path that glows in the dark.
Inspired by the famed Dutch painter’s “Starry Night” work, artist Daan Roosegaarde teamed up with Heijmans Infrastructure to create the 1-kilometer-long Van Gogh-Roosegaarde cycle path, which opened in the city of Eindhoven on November 13.
The path is illuminated by thousands of twinkling stones that feature glow-in-the-dark technology and solar-powered LED lights.
“I wanted to create a place that people will experience in a special way, the technical combined with experience, that’s what techno-poetry means to me,” said Roosegaarde in a statement.
This isn’t the first time Roosegaarde has teamed up with construction-services business Heijmans.
The collaborators have also been working on a series of “Smart Highways,” a concept that combines light, energy and road signs that react according to the present traffic situation.
Van Gogh 2015
The opening of the Van Gogh-Roosegaarde cycle path marks the start of Van Gogh 2015, a year of cultural events being held in the Netherlands, Belgium and France to honor the 125th anniversary of the death of van Gogh (1853-1890).
The “Starry Night”-inspired road is part of the larger Van Gogh Cycle Route in the province of North Brabant — Van Gogh’s homeland.
The entire route is 335 kilometers (208 miles) long and split into five individual round trips, which can each be cycled in a day and connect several van Gogh heritage locations in North Brabant, where the artist was born and raised.

The Van Gogh Bicycle Path is yet another permanent solution to encouraging people to partake in this type of transportation over other less environmentally friendly and more congested options. Unlike the Copenhagenize Flow, which was recently designed by Mikael Colville-Anderson, this alternative is much more artistic. As its name suggests, it is inspired by a famous painting: Starry Night.

Designed by Daan Roosegaarde, the Van Gogh Bicycle Path is made up of the same glowing paint as used in his previous Smart Highway project. The thousands of stones making up the path absorb sunlight during the day and then glow with a fluorescent light during the night.
The 600-metre bicycle path will be located in the Eindhoven region.

Daan Roosegaarde, que recientemente sorprendió al mundo con su proyecto de carreteras con luces fluorescentes que hacen mucho más seguros los recorridos para los conductores, usó la misma técnica de iluminación ahora en un tributo a la famosa pintura de Van Gogh “Una noche estrellada” en Holanda.

Este tributo localizado en la región de Eindhoven consiste en una ciclopista de 600 metros que está toda cubierta de pequeñas piedras que absorben la luz del sol durante el día, lo que hace que de noche emitan una increíble luz fluorescente durante la noche. Además de ser un tributo a Van Gogh, está localizado en el área en donde él vivió entre 1883 y 1885. Este proyecto estará acabado hasta el 2014.

La tecnología avanza cada vez más rápido, y cada vez es mayor la competencia, por lo que las mentes innovadoras y disruptivas son las que logran transmitir un mensaje que verdaderamente tiene alcance. Светящаяся в темноте разметка Glowing Lines для велосипедных полос может появиться в Британии, если местным дорожным властям понравится, как она выглядит в Нидерландах, где в настоящее время она нанесена для испытаний на участке шоссе возле города Осс
Полоса из трёх линий обработана фотолюминесцентным порошком, который способен излучать свет в течение 10 часов в ночное время, снижая потребность в остальной дорожной подсветке. Идея данного продукта принадлежит дизайнеру Даану Роозегаарду и местной компании Heijmans Infrastructure.

По словам дизайнера, езда вдоль такой разметки похожа на путешествие в сказку. Тройная полоса, сливающаяся в одну линию, в условиях густого тумана лучше заметна на дороге, чем стандартная дорожная подсветка. К данному проекту уже проявили интерес Китай и Индия, где есть потребность в обеспечении безопасности на дорогах без привлечения дополнительных источников энергии.

Для демонстрации технологии Glowing Lines компания Heijmans планируют создать 600-метровую дорожку, посвященную великому полотну Ван Гога «Звёздная ночь». Дорожка будет открыта 12 ноября в Нойнене, где Ван Гог проживал в 1883-1885 гг. Вместо линий на этой дорожке будут использованы камни, обработанные светящимся порошком, которые будут создавать иллюзию звёздного пейзажа под колесами велосипедов.

O artista holandês Daan Roosegaarde criou um inovador e belo passeio para as bicicletas (que são imensas na Holanda).

O passeio, iluminado quando a noite cai por LEDs, assemelha-se em tudo à pintura “Noite Estrelada”, de Van Gogh, que foi aliás a maior inspiração desta criação.

Com um quilómetro de extensão, o caminho é alimentado por energia solar e por tecnologia que brilha no escuro. Fica em Brabant, a zona da Holanda onde nasceu e cresceu o famosos pintor.

Os brilhos e luzes na superfície ajudam a que qualquer ciclista se mantenha no caminho, enquanto pedala à noite.
