David Plunkert’s illustrations have appeared in advertising campaigns for Fortune 500 companies as well as major newspapers, magazines, and recording labels. His work has been recognized by American Illustration, Communication Arts, Graphis, Print, the Society of Illustrators, and The New York Art Directors’ Club. He has been featured in numerous books including: Cool Type, New Masters of Poster Design, The Greatest Rock Albums that Never Were, and Mixing Messages. He has taught graphic design and illustration at Shepherd College and Maryland Institute College of Art in addition to lecturing for AIGA Chapters throughout the US. His work has been collected by museums and private collectors, and has been exhibited internationally. He has received a bronze medal from the Society of Illustrators LA and a gold medal from the Society of Illustrators NY. He and Joyce Hesselberth co-founded Spur Design in 1995.

A 1987 graduate of Shepherd College, Dave Plunkert functions as art director, designer and marketing director for Spur Design. Plunkert’s professional background includes over five years as a corporate graphic designer and ten years as a business owner and art director at Spur. As a graphic designer, Plunkert’s work has won many national design awards from the Advertising Association of Baltimore, Communication Arts, Graphis, Print and the New York Type Director’s Club. His design clients include AIRS, Goucher College, Maryland Historical Society, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, MTV Networks and Roll Call. As an illustrator, Plunkert’s work has been seen in BusinessWeek, Forbes, Reader’s Digest, Time and The Wall Street Journal among others. He has received illustration awards from Communications Arts, the Society of Illustrators, The Society of Publication Design and American Illustration. He was included in the group show “America Illustrata” which completed its international tour in 2000. He is a founding member of the Illustrators Partnership of America. Plunkert has taught graphic design at the Maryland Institute College of Art and at Shepherd College, and has lectured for AIGA Richmond. He served for two years on the Board of Directors of AIGA Baltimore.

David Plunkert is an illustrator and graphic designer based in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from Shepherd College in 1987. Dave functions as art director, designer and marketing director for Spur Design. His professional background includes over five years as a corporate graphic designer and twelve years as a business owner and art director at Spur.
David is best know for his highly conceptual editorial illustrations and theater posters, often featuring collage techniques. Both as a graphic designer, Plunkert’s work has won many national design awards from Communication Arts, the Society of Illustrators, and American Illustration, among others. Dave has been included in the juried American Illustration show every year since 1993.
His work is in the collections of the Library of Congress, the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, The University of California Design Museum, and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbein Hamburg.
