Emmanuel Ruffo was born in Mexico City in 1978. He is an architect, educator and research scientist currently based in Mexico City and the North of Italy. He is the founder and director of Rethinking Architecture: Rethinking Academic Series. Emmanuel Ruffo is a full-time professor at the School of Architecture, Anahuac University in Mexico, and is a visiting teacher at the Graz University of Technology in Austria, and the Architectural Association in the UK. He also lectures at different academic institutions in America and Europe, and is a reviewer at several scientific conferences including the CAAD Futures, CAADRIA, SIGraDi, and the DHSC. At the present, he is an associate editor of the international Journal Design Principles and Practices, and Dint Magazine.

In 2003, Emmanuel Ruffo received his Bachelor in Architecture from La Salle University in Mexico, and in 2004 he graduated from the Master Degree in ‘Genetic Architectures’ at the School of Architecture, ESARQ UIC in Barcelona, Spain. From 2010 to 2012, he was a research scientist at the Graz University of Technology in the Chair of the Institute of Architecture and Media supported by the FWF Austrian Science Foundation under the grant L695. From 2009 to 2010, he was professor of Digital Technologies and Environmental Design at the School of Architecture in Anahuac University, in Mexico, where he also co-founded the Laboratory of Digital Fabrication. In the industry of Architecture, he has collaborated with different offices in China, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and the UK, including the Cloud9 studio, Hybrid_a, M Fuksas D, MYAA LTD, and MAD Design.

Emmanuel Ruffo interest focuses at the intersection of ‘Pattern Formation’, ‘Structural Morphology’ and ‘Building Technology’. His projects, articles and investigations have been published in America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, including international exhibitions in Barcelona, Beijing, Florence, Guadalajara, London, Lisbon, Mexico City, Monterrey, and Santiago de Chile. He has received awards in multiple scenarios, including the ‘Best Presentation Prize’ at the CAAD Futures conference in Liege, Belgium, ’10 Young Architects Award’ by Time CNN in Mexico City, the first prize at the Arpafil competition, and he is part of the permanent collection at the VITRO Glass Museum in Monterrey. Emmanuel has delivered lectures and public presentations in different cities around the globe. More recently, he presented at the Banff Center for Creativity in Calgary, Canada, University of Liege in Belgium, La Sapienza University in Rome, Italy, Japan Institute of Architects in Tokyo, Japan, EXPO Guadalajara in Mexico, Poliforum and Convention Centre in Leon, Guanajuato, and at the Alcala Theatre in Oaxaca, Mexico. Since 2003, Emmanuel divides his residence between Mexico and Europe.
