GAO LEI

高磊

source: mlartsource

Born in 1980 in Changsha, Gao Lei sets himself apart from other artists coined under the term Post-80s generation. He feels that many of the Post-80s generation Chinese artists have been sheltered and have not seen much of the cruelties of life. He seeks out the darker side of life so that he can understand himself and his place in the complex society of modern China.

His use of gray palette and enclosed installations gives the viewer a strong sense of constraint and isolation. Although playful, his installations and their juxtapositions make the audience think beyond their daily lives.
