George Henry Longly is a British artist based in London. His work employs readymade objects, stickers, marble and materials with common associations to both consumer fantasy and product design to engage with modes of display and notions of what constitutes professional activity, lifestyle and creative labour. He has explicitly enforced parallels between art history and the fashion industry within performances based on the structure of a runway show. Combining disparate references ranging from The Flintstones to lifestyle brand Diptique within a method of making that is more akin to an industrial design process, Longly’s work flirts with it’s own potential to exist elsewhere within the cultural landscape.
George Henry Longly, born 1978, is a British artist based in London . He is a graduate of Central Saint Martins (MA) and of Sheffield Hallam University (BA). Selected solo exhibitions include Hair Care at Jonathan Viner in London and Kenall Koppe in Glasgow (2014), Pushy Kisser at Lüttgenmeijer in Berlin (2012), Vanille at Valentin in Paris (2012), Decades at Vidal Cuglietta in Brussels (2011) and Mirrors at Brooks Mews in London (2011). Selected group shows include A Journey Through London Subculture at the ICA in London (off-site, 2013), Reading The Surface at David Zwirner in London (2013), Prodigal in Blue at Laura Bartlett in London (2013), km 500.5 ay Kunsthalle Mainz (2012), A House of Leaves at David Roberts Art Foundation (2012), Minimalism and Applied II at Daimler Contemporary in Berlin (2010) and Bold Tendencies at Peckham Rye Car Park in London (2010). He has received awards from The Elephant Trust, Arts Council England and The Henry Moore Foundation and performed as part of Park Nights at the Serpentine Gallery, London.
