Amid the manifestations which moved to Brazil,
against political corruption, much has been said about the young people who
took to the streets to protest and covered their faces, for various reasons, but the vast majority, for fear of persecution by the government. I, Giuliano Lucas, photographer and visual artist, along with friend and visual artist Marcelo Monteiro, created a work titled “Sub_versos” (subversives) which was the term used by the Brazilian government in the years of military dictatorship to classify, prosecute and destroy any idea or person contrary to the military regime imposing. There was an effort on the part of the media on or near the Brazilian government to discredit the people’s movement that demanded an end to corruption in Brazilian politics. This work aims to remind the people of their strength and the democratic state guarantees the right of the people themselves to demand their representatives that they play the role to which they were entrusted, that people still need to cover their faces to avoid being prosecuted or they disappear as if Amarildo Dhias de Souza, who disappeared after being approached by police in the favela of rocinha.
