Goshka Macuga merges the roles of collector, curator and artist, creating carefully staged, mixed-media installations which draw on the conventions of the historical archive and exhibition making.
In a form of collaboration with artists, both past and present, her dramatic environments juxtapose disparate collections of objects: archive material, film, sound, her own works and works by other artists. Ignoring traditional hierarchies of display, she creates a freedom to suggest new narratives and relationships; between artists, objects and the museum.

Goshka Macuga was born in Poland in 1967. She studied at Wojciech Gerson School of Art, Warsaw; Central Saint Martins School of Art, London; and Goldsmiths College, London. Goshka Macuga wurde in Warschau geboren und lebt in London. Ihre Einzelausstellungen waren im Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (2011), in der Kunsthalle Basel (2009) und in der Tate Britain, London (2007), zu sehen. Sie hat an der Biennale di Venezia (2009), der Liverpool Biennial (2008), der Berlin Biennale (2008) und der Bienal de São Paulo (2006) teilgenommen. 2008 war sie für den Turner Prize nominiert.

Nasceu em 1967, em Varsóvia, Polônia.
Vive e trabalha em Londres, Inglaterra.

Graduou-se em artes pela Central St. Martin School of Art, em 1995, e se pós-graduou pelo Goldsmiths College, em Londres, em 1996. Trabalha com instalação, pintura e escultura. Realizou diversas exposições, individuais e coletivas, na Europa e na Ásia.

Entre suas exposições mais recentes incluem-se “Rock” (2001), na Staatliche Kunsthalle, em Baden-Baden, Alemanha; “ZOOBOX 2001” no Fórum Cultural da Áustria, em Londres; “Homeless Furniture” (2002), na Transmission Gallery, em Glasgow, Escócia. Também participou da Bienal de Gwangju, na Coréia do Sul, em 2002.

Em 2003 Goshka Macuga expôs na Galeria Gasworks, em Londres, a obra intitulada “Picture Room”. Esse projeto envolveu a recriação, dentro da galeria, de uma parte do Museu Sir John Soane, em Londres – o famoso “Picture Room”. No interior dessa réplica, Macuga tornou-se curadora de uma exposição com trinta artistas colaboradores, discutindo as relações entre espaço expositivo, curadoria e processo de criação.

Macuga criou, em 2005, duas instalações, “A Time to Live, a Time to Die” e “Library Table”, que podem ser vistas na The Saatchi Gallery, em Londres. Em 2006 preparou uma instalação em Greenland Street, em Liverpool, que recria um ambiente baseado no cenário do filme “O Gabinete do Doutor Caligari”, de Robert Wiene.
