HEIDE TREPANIER

When I paint, I attempt to make sense of my surroundings or come to ever shifting conclusions about myself, and my culture through environments. These environments are imaginary lands and consist of colors, controlled drips, odd prosthetic objects and comic like marks. References to drips and autonomous marks of the past relate through a system where the abstract mark can take on a personality with anthropomorphic characteristics. Drips become characters that play out feelings of fear and greed as well as ecstasy and joy. Through paintings, I create imaginary places, and non-linear narratives where abstract forms eat each other, do loving and vile things to each other, and act out in a make-believe plasticland.

Heide Trepainer’s work reminds me a lot of pain splatter. But unlike paint splatter it has so much character. To me it looks like each painting and drawing tells their own story. Her drawings have a lot more detail to the piece of art, but the paintings all have vibrant colors that draw you in. Her work looks on the larger side. After reading the artist statement on her web page heidetrepanier.com/index.php she said each painting come to conclusions from herself, her culture, and the environment. She said her paintings are made up of imaginary lands, each drip is their own character that has it’s own unique personality. I thought it was weird that I took so much from her paintings and drawings, and it was all true after reading her artist review. Thats very interesting and inspirational to me as an art student.
