HENRY BRUCE
Wooden chair sculpture

A few years ago, enticed by the local landscape, Henry and Flora Brudenell-Bruce bought a large estate on Dartmoor with nothing more than a derelict barn and some animal stalls for habitation. With the help of a local builder and using only materials found on the estate and traditional methods, they have lovingly crafted a unique family home. In the process Henry discovered a talent for woodwork and sculpture and created an enormous chair, The Giant’s Chair, that stands over the valley.

I see my work as an artist as a process of investigation. My studies in Social Anthropology have led me into an enquiry into landscape and the human condition using three-dimensional form.
My work engages with ephemera – light, motion and time. By placing work in the landscape I create a locus.
