He did studies in electronics and Fine Arts in Universidad de Guanajuato (Mexico) Universite Laval (Quebec) and Universitat Politecnica de Valencia (Spain).

Grant holder of the Cisneros Fontanals Foundation 2010 Grant Program, the 2009-2010 “Jovenes creadores” program FONCA, the Arts support program of the BBVA Bancomer Foundation 2010, the 2006 media and art investigation program CENART, and the 2001 grants program for artist FECA , in México.

First place in category ‘Topografias Residuales’ of the electronic and video International Art Festival, Transitio_MX03 ‘Autonomías del desacuerdo’ 2009.
Selected for the Olympics of Visual Arts ARTIADE Athens Greece 2004.

His work has been shown internationally. A white wolkswagen bug has drowned in a liquid of the same color. This is part of Ivan Puig’s brilliant 2004 installation hasta las narices, which means “up to the nose”. The car is a part of a three piece installation where in the end we discover that the car and the driver are toy figures floating in what seems to be a glass of milk. The aim is to reflect on the proportions of events and its realtivity.The Mexican artist says he is interested in the “proportions of events and their relativity.“

Doesn’t it look like this white car is submerged in milk? Mexican-born artist Ivan Puig plays with perspective and offers alternative ways of looking at ordinary objects. In this installation titled Hasta Las Narices, Puig creates the illusion of a sinking vehicle by revealing only the topmost portion of an ivory Volkswagen Sedan in an entirely white room. The white on white provides an interesting aesthetic appeal that adds to the contradicting simple-complexity of the piece. The blank, simplistic color signifies minimalism; however, the unconventionally composed car is anything but.

Iván Puig es un artista plástico mexicano con un portafolio con cosas bastante interesantes, les recomiendo darse una vuelta…

Inventar otras formas posibles. Solucionar, manufacturar; chácharas y tiliches. Pepenar, reciclar, alargar la vida de objetos obsoletos, la tecnología y la lucha contra su enajenamiento. Preguntar, cuestionar, incidir; el sarcasmo, la ironía y la paradoja. Me gusta la contradicción, me gusta la poesía, la simpleza y la complejidad juntas, la sorpresa y sorprender. Me gusta que la gente se sonría cuando la pieza detona en su interior; me gusta, incitar, me gusta pensar que el arte tiene una fuerza transformadora, política y creativa, con resultados concretos y tangibles y también con efectos sublimes y sutiles. Me gustan las herramientas, disfruto transformar los materiales y gozo de las formas, procuro que mis piezas tengan varios niveles de lectura; me encanta la metáfora y los juegos de palabras. Me fascina el humor sencillo y lúcido. Me gusta el sonido y su capacidad de evocar y suscitar. Disfruto mucho de los procesos y del trabajo colectivo, suelo ser obsesivo en la buena factura de las piezas. Jugar a la ciencia y de pasada dudar de ella, dudar de todo, dudar de la duda misma, rayar en lo metafísico Observo y concluyo., temerario y temeroso, me enfuerece la prepotencia y la injusticia social.

Excelentes instalações do artista espanhol Ivan Puig, que com muita simplicidade e usando materiais do nosso dia a dia, cria cenários surrealistas e muito reflexivos. Abaixo seguem alguns trabalhos que gostei, inclusive do Fusquinha derretido, que pra mim é o ápice!

Сочетание стандартных вещей (авто, стулья) и нестандартной ситуации (те же стулья, тонущие в камне) сделали дизайнера знаменитым. Глядя на его произведения, сразу сложно понять, что все это – неправда, что в действительности это всего лишь части обычных вещей, размещенных в необычном ракурсе. Но разум отказывается верить, и мы видим авто, утонувшие в полу, те же стулья, утонувшие в камне и многое другое. Замечательная подборка работ!
