Takahiro Iwasaki is recognized as one of Japan’s new generation of emerging young artists, who creates intricately detailed models that reinterpret contemporary cityscapes and iconic historic buildings. In recent years, his artworks have been featured in numerous international art fairs and major exhibitions, with sculptures from his reflection model series receiving the greatest attention. The reflection model series focuses on seven of Japan’s most sacred buildings that all have an intimate visual relationship with the reflections they cast in the water that surrounds them. Playing with this striking visual relationship Iwasaki constructs precise three dimensional models that are exhibited suspended, in a way that combines the actual building with its illusionary reflection to create one complete form. The NGV is currently commissioning the third, most recent, and largest to date, edition to this seven part series, that focuses on the sixth century Shinto shrine of Itsukushima that rests on the tidal flats of Japan’s Inland Sea.

When first approaching the artwork of Japanese artist Takahiro Iwasaki it’s entirely possible you might miss it altogether. Not only are his small buildings and electrical towers excruciatingly small and delicate, but they also rest on absurdly mundane objects: rolls of tape, a haphazardly wrinkled towel, or from the bristles of a discarded toothbrush. Only on close inspection do the small details come into focus, faint hints of urbanization sprouting from disorder.

Вероятно, что впервые обратив внимание на работы японского художника Такахиро Ивасаки (Takahiro Iwasaki), вы бы подумали что над вами пошутили и прошли мимо – настолько крошечные его творения.
В своих скульптурах художник воплощает крупномасштабные объекты – линии электропередач, аттракционы и, даже, целые побережья. Однако в этих работах заключена и своя, особая магия: эти объекты производят впечатление обратное своей масштабности – настолько они миниатюрны и хрупки, настолько велико мастерство того, кто смог сделать подобные миниатюры.

Материалом для своих работ автор выбирает необычные для создания скульптур, но обыденные для повседневной жизни вещи – щетину зубной щетки, махровые нитки от банных полотенец и обычный канцелярский скотч.

Сам художник родом из города Хиросимы, печально известного своей историей.
Хрупкость и неустойчивость объектов в работах Такахиро Ивасаки напоминает людям о том, что не все то, что мы привыкли считать гарантом стабильности комфортной человеческой жизни в современном мире, является таковым на самом деле.
