Light, Salt, Water, Wind, Time. Arc One was originally set up as a very long gentle arc of rope-light, dug into and cutting across the surface of a salt lake in Australia. It was left there for a month for the lake’s tidal energy to create new forms and encrust with salt – becoming a part of the landscape itself.
The Arc series is an ongoing project begun in 2010. So far eight Arcs have been produced in Australia, the USA and Portugal.

A series of photographic works that develop a technique of light-painting. Fiber optic cables are lit, hung and rotated to create a controllable light sculpture that exists in time as much as space. The cables can be cut or tethered at certain points to create new forms. Colour is used as an expression of our time perception – red, green and blue light is mixed to create other colours as each passes through the same space.

My current body of work explores the link between matter and energy, a fusion of subjective and objective reality, and the effect our perception has on the world around us. My works are non-objective, functioning as a conduit between the observer and the environment, to facilitate communication. By using simple, elegant forms and light I seek to create a balance between the ritualistic artistic process and the natural phenomena around me – a balance that has the potential to influence the experience of the viewer or participant, as they allow themselves to enter their own state of balance with the world around them. The forms I create are simple, elegant – without baggage. They enable the viewer to experience the work in a state of nameless objectification, if only for the briefest of moments. This primal interaction empowers one to transcend labels, subjective experience, and embrace the potential to remove all boundaries between self and subject, matter and energy, light, time, information…
While being energy efficient and environmentally sensitive my works with their temporal, ephemeral nature strive to remind us of the same traits that our world subtly communicates to us, through the changing of the seasons, through the shifts in climate and topography, that our world exists in time more than space, that like my work it can live on through documentation; a memory of an event, a record of a happening, something that, even if repeated, will never be the same.
