His works have included sound installations like Sonic Column, an LED column that lights up and plays music as you touch it, and E-MAN, an online entity that became an offline interactive sculpture. He’s also made large scale works—like Noble Mono (above) a layered 10,000 LED facade for a Seoul department store—that reflects his approach of engaging audiences through playful, simple ways, using technology as a facilitator. “The design aspects of artworks sometimes start from technology.” he explains. “And from new technologies new ideas blossom. From that, sometimes a new form appears also. The search for beauty within that then becomes art.”

睦鎮耀Jin-Yo Mok（韓國）
睦鎮耀（Jin-Yo Mok）是韓國年輕一輩受矚目的新媒體藝術家，首爾弘益大學碩士，後轉往美國紐約大學互動電訊所進修。他的藝術作品多次受邀於世界各地或網路上的特展如：奧地利電子藝術節、紐約惠特尼美術館、芝加哥的WIRED NextFest、赫爾辛基的克雅斯馬當代藝術館（Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art）、切爾西美術館（Chelsea Art Museum）、巴西聖保羅國際電子語言藝術節（FILE SAO PAULO）、首爾媒體城、韓國網路藝術節、首爾美術館的網路藝術館等。

作品：SoniCoumn 音樂圓柱

音樂圓柱是一個經由觸碰產生聲音演奏的互動裝置，互動模式是藉由一個類似圓柱的物體，在鐵網狀的圓柱裡設置的LED燈會因人的觸碰而發亮並且發出特別的聲音，當人觀眾去轉動手把，圓柱就會緩慢地自動旋轉並演奏藉由觸碰燈光圖樣的聲音。

音樂圓柱是睦鎮耀(Jin-Yo Mok)音樂盒作品的系列之一，構想是複製於很久以前演奏音樂盒的經驗，那明亮的聲音來自於記憶中機械轉動，作者愉悅且小心的複製這個經驗，不是壯麗神秘的而是單純易玩的小玩具。

アーティストJin-Yo Mokさんの柱状楽器(インタラクティブ・サウンド・インスタレーション ) SoniColumn。柱状のシリンダーにセンサーとLEDが埋め込まれていて触れることで演奏でき、ちょっと離れたところにあるハンドルを回せばオルゴールのように光のパターンが再生されるもの。100%見た目通りの音がするFlash動画もどうぞ。

テノリオンのようなLED楽器と円筒レコード / 手回しオルゴールを合成したような構成。手回しハンドルが敢えてちょっと離れたところにあるのは何か深いコンセプト的要請によるものか見た目の問題かやや気になりますが、光る高層ビルのような外観は魅力的です。

SoniColumn es un sistema de sonido interactivo desarrollado por Jin-Yo Mok.

Posee la forma de una columna y en su interior cuenta con unas rejillas de luces LED las cuales se activan al tacto y emiten sonidos únicos. A través del uso de la manija, la columna gira lentamente e ilumina el ambiente con la matriz creada por las luces.

En el sitio es posible ver un video donde se muestra el funcionamiento de la SoniColumn.

Sonicolumn es un gran cilindro con aspecto de columna que puede reproducir música cuando se le toca. Una cuadrícula de LEDs instalados dentro de ella se iluminan al contacto de los usuarios y emiten sonidos únicos. Cuando un usuario mueve la manivela, la columna empieza a rotar suavemente y se va iluminando el patrón de LEDs que el usuario ha tocado.
Diseñado por Jin-Yo Mok que también ha creado las cortinas luminosas de cama, está trabajando en una versión portátil de la idea.
Actualmente SoniColumn se está exhibiendo en la Galría de Seúl, Corea.
