Julian Mayor is an artist and designer based in East London. His work is inspired by the sculptural possibilities of computers combined with industrial and craft making processes. After graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2000 he worked in California as a designer for IDEO design consultancy. On returning to London in 2002 he worked for Pentagram and other design studios before teaching 3D modelling at the London College of Communication and starting to exhibit his own work. Julians work has been exhibited at the V&A London, Rossana Orlandi Milan, FAT Galerie Paris and 21st21st New York.

The clone chair is based on a Queen Anne chair from the collection of the Metropolitan museum in New York that has been sampled, digitised and recreated in plywood. The piece keeps an appreciation of the form and formality of the original, but has been transformed into something that is more about the idea of possibility.

A partir d’un logiciel, Julian Mayor a dessiné la forme d’une chaise du milieu du XVIIIe siècle pour créer une image numérique, qui elle-même guide la scie qui découpe les planches de contreplaqué. Le résultat est une chaise de style XVIIIe, réalisée avec la technologie du XXIe siècle.
