KOLLISION
Spine

Danish design studio Kollision has presented a new project at the Media Architecture Biennale 2012. The project titled Spine was designed in close collaboration with CAVI, Mads Wahlberg, Henrik Munch (Sorten Muld) and TEKNE Produktion.
Spine is an interactive installation based on twenty glowing cubes and an atmospheric sound composition. Each cube is moved precisely in fluid motions by two computer-controlled motors. The movements of the cubes as well as the sound composition react to nearby visitors by working together as one coherent expression in dialogue with the surroundings – a fifty meter long spine floating in space continually displaying new movements, light scenes and sounds. Spine is moody: sometimes shy and avoidant at other times more curious and almost aggressive.
The installation was displayed between 15 November and 15 December 2012 at Godsbanen in Aarhus, Denmark, during the Media Architecture Biennale 2012.

OUR ROLE
Kollision is the main designer of the installation and was involved in all stages of planning and execution with a specific focus on creating the interactive and sensor based 3D-engine, which controls the winches and the 3D-positioning of the cubes, controlled the light sources and triggered event sounds.
CREDITS
Spine is displayed between November 15th and December 15th 2012 at Godsbanen in Aarhus, Denmark, during the Media Architecture Biennale 2012. Kollision designed Spine in close collaboration with CAVI, Mads Wahlberg, Henrik Munch (Sorten Muld) and TEKNE Produktion.
WHO WE ARE
Kollision is a Danish design office founded in 2000 and is located in Aarhus, Denmark. We specialise in interactive communication, interaction design, dynamic media architecture, and citizen participation in architectural projects and urban development.
WHAT WE DO
We are often challenged to describe what we do in one sentence. Admittedly, it isn’t easy. But here’s our best answer: We design. We believe design is a way of thinking aimed at creating value for our clients – and their clients. Regardless of the scale or scope we can handle every aspect of the design process from strategy and conceptualisation to implementation and evaluation.
