Michael T. Rea y Su Woodbot: Artista de Chicago que trabaja principalmente con madera. Entre sus obras se cuentan cápsulas espaciales, un traje de buzo, un jet-ski, instrumentos musicales, armamento y hasta un robot que me ha dejado sin palabras. Asumo que la reflexión del artista va por el lado de la tecnología y la naturaleza; al usar un material tan… digamos vivo, logra poner estos elementos en otro contexto, lo que nos permite mirarlos desde otro punto de vista, ahora desprovisto de literalidad. Eso me hace pensar en que este puede ser un tipo de naturaleza muerta actualizada.Su galería tiene unas piezas fantásticas.

michael rea is a sculptor from the south suburbs of chicago who currently resides in milwaukee, USA. for most of his work rea uses wood to create life-size objects that often reference technology. ‘standing on the shoulders of other people’s dreams could perhaps be the most pathetic of all dreams. the intent of my work is to create something short of its outcome. my goal is to create the idea of an object that remains a dream. the objects I create are based on fictions, rather than realities. I have always been interested in the ephemeral worlds established in film, or even in popular culture. fictions or established hearsay allow for a flawed interpretation, which leads to a flawed result. the sublime is unattainable, and not an option. I further amplify this experience by only using my memory to construct my images. failure is imminent. I find humor allows me to enjoy this experience, and I in turn build humor into the worlds established by my work. I have chosen to depict these states with unfinished wood, and other materials which convey a sense of the temporal. I find the beauty in life lies in between moments. my work offers a sense of what could be and what could never be simultaneously.‘ MR

Michael T. Rea adalah seorang pematung kelahiran South Suburbs of Chicago, yang salah satu karyanya berupa baju perang mekanik dari kayu yang berjudul “A Prosthetic Suit for Stephen Hawking with Japanese Steel.” Walaupun pada awalnya Michael T. Rea adalah seorang pelukis namun dalam setiap karya seni patungnya akan selalu membuat orang berdecak kagum dan ingin melihatnya lebih dekat.

Saat ditanya “kelihatannya karya-karya anda terpengaruhi film-film di Amerika seperti the big over the top blockbuster adventures, like Star Wars, Ghostbusters, or Indiana Jones, apa hubungannya dengan hal tersebut?” …kegemarannya menonton film sejak kecil itu mungkin yang mempengaruhi hingga saya dewasa…jawabnya”

Secara konsep, karya Michael T. Rea banyak dipengaruhi oleh film-film di Amerika, hampir semua dibuat dari kayu. Dan pada karya Rea berjudul “A Prosthetic Suit For Stephen Hawking with Japanese Steel”. Dia membuat robot setinggi delapan kaki yang mirip dengan Gundam Suit, muncul setelah Rea melihat film besutan Quentin Tarantino.

Karyanya tampaknya merupakan penggabungan fantasi seni dan reaksinya terhadap teknologi modern, yang ia menafsirkannya secara rinci tanpa mengacu pada foto atau model.
