‘Outlines’ were the theme of the exhibition. Slight black lines like the traces of sketches drawn in the air made transparent surfaces and volumes appear, which we assigned practical functions. The outlines remained after simplifying paintings of plants and animals. They are condensed expressions of meaning, similar to Japanese calligraphy. The designs gently break the relationship of before and behind, and traverse at times the space between two and three dimensions. Multi-faceted and constantly morphing, they move alternately between the becoming and collapse of form.

Giving people a small ” ! ” moment.
There are so many small ” ! ” moments hidden in our everyday.
But we don’t recognize them.
and even when we do recognize them,we tend to unconsciously reset our
minds and forget what we’ve seen.
But we believe these small ” ! ” moments are what make our days so
interesting, so rich.
That’s why we want to reconstitute the everyday by collecting and
reshaping them into something that’s easy to understand.
We’d like the people who’ve encountered nendo’s designs to feel these
small ” ! ” moments intuitively.
That’s nendo’s job.

Japanese studio Nendo will present a collection of black wire furniture with Phillips de Pury & Company at the Saatchi Gallery in London later this month.

The Japanese design firm, Nendo, has designed this wired, sketch like chair to push the boundaries of optical illusion in furniture design industry. The simplified Black Lines are black metal rods arranged to look like series of 2D lines when viewed from the one angle and like a chair from another. This chair may not be the most comfortable to sit on but for sure a great piece of art to appreciate.

Des effets de textures & transparences déployées à travers leur collection “Textured Transparencies” (exposée à la Galleria Jannone à Milan en avril 2011) au mobilier de la collection “Thin Black Lines” (présentée par Phillips de Pury & Company à la Saatchi Gallery de Londres en septembre 2010), l’art de surprendre des Nendo semble illimité. Dans le premier cas, les pièces explorent les nuances infinies de la transparence et de l’opaque, tout en étant conçues dans des matériaux différents afin d’interroger toute nouvelle fonctionnalité et effet visuel. Dans le second cas, telles des traces de croquis, les légères lignes noires dessinent dans l’air des surfaces transparentes laissant apparaître des volumes associés à des fonctions pratiques. Semblables à la calligraphie japonaise, multi-facettes et constamment morphing, les objets se déplacent, brisent la relation du devant et derrière pour traverser parfois l’espace entre deuxième et troisième dimension.

L’impatto con la nuova collezione di Nendo, Thin Black Lines, è molto curiosa. Ad un primo sguardo potrebbe sembrare la solita esaltazione minimalista, ma mettendo a fuoco i contorni -proprio quelli- della ricerca, ci si accorge che l’intenzione è un’altra. Quella di giocare, con molta ironia, con le nostre percezioni visive, lavorando con le linee (tondino di ferro) per sottrarre volumi e fare dello spazio domestico un luogo ambiguo e svuotato di tridimensionalità.

Il risultato? Un po’ allucinatorio, ed adatto ad essere presentato, più che nello stand di una fiera, negli spazi di una galleria irriverente come la Saatchi Gallery di Londra. Nella collezione, una sedia e un appendiabiti, in mostra dal 20 settembre al 31 ottobre, in collaborazione con Phillips de Pury & Company.

日本設計工作室Nendo今年推出的極簡風格家具設計將於這個月底與Phillips de Pury公司合作，在英國倫敦的Saatchi Gallery展出。這系列名為 ” Thin Black Lines ” (細黑線) 的設計包含了椅子以及衣架作品，主要設計是利用簡單的幾何線條與圖形，表現出2D與3D之間的空間趣味，是用類似素描線條的手法跟日本傳統文字意
