Jewels by Réka Lőrincz, a young designer from Budapest who certainly doesn’t follow Coco Chanel’s “less is more” rule, are charming (though not painless). Pieces from the ‘Too Much is Not Enough” collection are irreverent, fun and purposefully invasive. They might bring to mind images of the type of “diner food” served in the Happy Days show and that fake perfect life from the 1950s, which was sheltered, respectable and concerned with good manners. These symbols of 1950s food culture – ice cream cones, hamburgers and chicken drumsticks – can be found in brooches studded with colorful stones. They become the centerpieces of a colorful, fantastical circus. It’s as if that oh-so-respectable, black-and-white Pleasantville was suddenly filled with color. Color is most definitely the protagonist of these brooches that don’t leave any space for the discreet – they are a mirage to the cynical eyes of the modern spectator.
Born in 1978, she graduated from the Hungarian University of Craft and Design – Metal Design Department and then went to Barcelona and later to Birmingham and Bratislava to participate in various workshops. Since 2006, she has been displaying her creations in solo shows and trade fairs throughout Europe. In 2011, her necklace ‘I love you Barbie’ won the Jewellery of the Year – Audience Choice Winner prize in Hungary.
With her ‘Neo-Pop’ design, Réka makes us reflect on our sharp disillusionment with modern objects. She takes inspiration from day-to-day life and its most recognizable objects, often looking to the most popular toys from recent times like My Little Pony and toy soldiers, which are also obvious symbols of the commercialization of modern man. The result walks the fine red line between manipulating images that we already know in a subtle or more obvious way and a sort of dreamy nostalgia for times past. These elements of making a social statement and having fun come together in a triumph of Swarovski crystals, zircons, gold and primary colors that seem to make a screaming impact.
Objects we deal with every day – and perhaps objects we don’t much want to deal with, such as credit cards – become colorful, flower-shaped brooches. Despite their elegant shape and shiny, colorful patina, they have a disturbing allure with that string of credit card numbers that is still able to be seen.
To sum up, Réka’s jewels are sparkling, showy pins that feature boring elements of modern-day life that women, regardless of how disillusioned or hopeful they are, are free to wear if they wish.

Réka Lörincz from Budapest make jewellery from credit cards – but it was her My Little Pony design ‘The Good The Bad and The Beautiful’ that really caught our eye and introduced us to more edgy and ‘glaring as we like it’ creations by Réka. Plastic toy soldiers and cowboys, an old gold-watch, My Little Pony and even a plastic mouthpiece are transformed in Réka’s hands from everyday objects to resplendent noticeable contemporary jewellery.

Река Лоринц (Réka Lőrincz) живёт и работает в Будапеште. В 1999 году она закончила колледж искусств и поступила в Университет дизайна на факультет работы по металлу. Спустя 2 года, в этом же университете она начала параллельно учиться и на факультете визуальной педагогики. Обучение дизайнера продолжается по сей день, только теперь это совместные проекты, выставки и симпозиумы по всей Европе, а вместо дипломов – победы в конкурсах.
С самого начала своей карьеры Река, как и многие европейские дизайнеры, начала работать со вторсырьем, превращая его в предметы пусть необычного, но искусства. Пластмасса – любимый материал дизайнера, впрочем, далеко не единственный. Для создания своих работ Река также использует жемчуг, медь, серебро и золото, эпоксидную смолу, силикон и резину. Все работы выполняются вручную и большинство из них отличается очень яркими цветами и необычными формами.
Мы уже как-то рассказывали об украшениях из Барби от Марго Ланж. Так вот, в Венгрии тоже любят куклы! Особенно актуально в свете наступившего года смотрятся украшения в виде лошади, а точнее из розовых пони.
Старые игрушки вообще играют немаловажную роль в творчестве дизайнера. Маленькие пуделя, игрушечные танки и солдатики – всё пригодится в работе!
Ещё одна категория украшения из необычных материалов – броши и колье из банковских пластиковых карт. Карточку можно заказать практически с любой картинкой, а если не хочется расставаться с ней даже после того, как она утратила свою актуальность, можно сделать из неё украшение! Выглядеть оно точно будет очень ярко и весьма необычно.
Впрочем, не менее необычно смотрятся украшения из лейблов, которые пришиваются на одежду. Решили обновить гардероб и выбросить ненужные вещи? Правильно! Только сначала срежьте с них этикетки. Такое украшение имеет и практическую полезность: вы всегда будете помнить, КАК МНОГО у вас было одежды.
Сама дизайнер считает, что современные украшения – лучшие и очень индивидуальные друзья девушек. И с ней сложно не согласиться. Необычных украшений существует так много, что каждый сможет найти для себя что-то интересное. А мы поможем в этом поиске!
