Reto Boller uses industrial and “non-art” materials to explore how sculpture, painting, and installation might work with or against each other and the space they inhabit. In Untitled (2006), Boller covered a gallery’s walls and floors with glossy red adhesive, enveloping the space with a dazzling and reflective light. For another work, he covered a rooftop with broken cobalt glass, creating a reflective surface meant to be viewed from afar. Strongly influenced by Blinky Palermo and Dieter Roth, Boller draws on the traditions of Minimalism and Conceptualism, but with a distinct focus on object and material.
