Asemic Scapes – Rehabilitation Center Rainberg is concept for a medical rehabilitation centre in the Austrian Alps designed by architecture gradute Sarah Schneider.
According to her eloquent description of the concept:
“The project developes an architecture that uses rules of natural growth and connects both growth and ornament, with a landscape environment, topologically and calligraphically.
The ornament creates a symbiotic relationship with the existing environment by framing existing topographic features and at the same time giving a feedback to the landscape by creating topographical irregularities.”

Calligraphy is adding an idea of creating variation through artistic expression to a technical matter of communication and is connected to ornamentation which generally uses natural motifs and often rules of natural growth.
The project developes an architecture that uses rules of natural growth and connects both growth and ornament, with a landscape environment, topologically and calligraphically.
The ornament creates a symbiotic relationship with the existing environment by framing existing topographic features and at the same time giving a feedback to the landscape by creating topographical irregularities.
In the landscape the ornament starts to organize the ground by subtle terracing and it creates paths that break the clear definition of an indoor – outdoor boundary by running through the building, widening up to create bigger platforms and shrinking back to paths when leaving the building again.
This ornamented landscape topography develops the roof structure transforming from a plan calligraphy into a complex volumetric condition of overlay and envelope.
Medical treatments have become more and more high tech and computised and human bodies are more reduced to repairable machines, there is a special need for rehabilitation facilities to satisfy the psychological aspects of a healing process. The environment can fulfill this by integrating the power of subtle transitions and the blending of the landscape into the building to aid the patient’s recovery.

Asemic Scapes – Rehabilitation Center Rainberg is concept for a medical rehabilitation centre in the Austrian Alps designed by architecture gradute Sarah Schneider. Designed to accommodate 50 patients, it features balconies overlooking the mountains and raised walkways running through the surrounding forests. Schneider is a recent graduate of Studio Lynn, an architecture course run by American architect Greg Lynn at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Asemic Scapes was her Diploma project. This project is a conceptual design for a rehabilitation center for trauma and post surgery patients with a capacity of 50 beds in the Austrian Alps, in Vorarlberg.

In general rehab centers like their predecessors the sanatoriums of the 19th and 20th century are based on a dualistic set of values: they embody the belief in the healing power of technology and the healing power of nature, which is why they are mostly situated in prestine landscapes. Therefore my attempt was to develop a contemporary relationship to the landscape based on calligraphic ornamentation. Sarah Schneider es una joven austríaca que acaba de terminar su carrera de Arquitectura y que ha conseguido el Diploma con su proyecto para un Centro de Rehabilitación en los Alpes, al que ha titulado Asemic Scapes.

Diseñado para alojar 50 pacientes, el centro se une totalmente con el paisaje alpino y dibuja lo que, personalmente me ha recordado a los diseños de la Tierra Media, siendo un ejemplo casi real de lo que sería la Arquitectura élfica… ;)

No sé hasta qué punto es realista su construcción o si tan sólo se trata de un proyecto que ha llamado la atención internacionalmente. Lo que sí está claro es que abre muchas vías e ideas en la arquitectura del futuro.

Nie często decyduję się na publikacje dotyczące architektonicznych obiektów, ale ten szczególny projekt jest dla mnie inspiracją i odkryciem! Asemic Scapes – to koncept Centrum Rehabilitacji w Rainberg, jest dziełem młodej wiedeńskiej architektki Sary Schneider. Centrum Rehabilitacji, to projekt dyplomowy Sary na Wiedeńskiej Akademii Sztuk Pięknych, zaprojektowany jednocześnie dla Studio Lynn . Położony w Alpach, wśród lasów i jezior, organiczny w formie obiekt, w niczym nie przypomina standardowych budynków. Rzut z góry ukazuje piękną, niczym bajkowa “amfibia” formę. Nie ingerujący w naturę koncept, będzie jednocześnie jednym z najbardziej nowoczesnych centrum rehabilitacji dla pacjentów z urazami i po operacji.

Dualistyczny w swoim założeniu obiekt, jest esencją architektury początku XXI wieku – ucieleśnia wiarę w uzdrawiającą moc technologii i w magiczną moc natury.

هذه التحفة المعمارية هي مشروع الدبلومة لـ Sarah Schneider التي تخرجت من كورس للمعماري الأمريكي Greg Lynn في جامعة فيينا للعلوم التطبيقية، وهو عبارة عن تصوّر لمركز إعادة تأهيل طبي وسط ثلوج جبال الألب في النمسا، ويستوعب هذا المركز 50 مريضا. على الرغم من كونه مجرد مشروع تخرج إلا أنه نشر في مجلة Dezeen العالمية المتخصصة في التصميمات المعمارية وأظن أنه يستحق ذلك بالفعل. اقرأ المزيد
