Inspired by a Japanese primitive dance festival called Awa Dance Festival, the interactive digital art installation created by teamLab surrounds the viewer with harmonious music and dance, and induces peace into the viewer. The installation consists of seemingly endless number of crystal clear holograms, which are projected from the floor up by using the short throw function of Sony’s VPL-SW536 projector. This function allowed teamLab to project multiple holographic figures in a confined space, while maintaining a clean and clutter-free installation space for viewers.

By controlling the multiple projectors through wireless LAN connection and pairing it with motion sensors, each individual holographic figure is able to detect the entry of the viewer into the installation space, and respond to that entry by stopping all of the music and dancing. If the viewer is able to remain still after a short period of time, the holographic figures will start playing music and dance again, immersing the viewer into a peaceful harmony of music and dance.

To promise the best viewing experience for all viewers, each life-like holographic figure must be projected clearly without any loss of detail, and this is achieved with the high 3100 lumens brightness level and 2500:1 contrast ratio of Sony’s VPL-SW536 short throw projector. Add in the consistent colour stability that the projector is capable of handling during long hours of operation, and we have the perfect harmony between technology and digital art.

With this latest digital art installation, Sony has once again proved its versatility to provide different projector installation options based on the unique requirements of each individual user.
