When not referring to themselves as VLF and designing a myriad different things together, Thomas Cristiani and Antoine Roux go by the names their parents gave them and maintain an exciting, highly-aestheticised fine art practice that seems to be heavily grounded in pop cultural references and unique personal mythologies. As big fans of their design we’re happy to say they can count us as fans of their gallery shows too, particularly the recent Education and Work exhibition at Artisan Social Designer in Paris. Talented chaps indeed!

We’ve featured Thomas Cristiani & Antoine Roux on the site numerous times, partly because they seem to be the only artists on this planet that genuinely do have access to Bernard’s Watch. Amid making spectacularly contemporary visuals that fall like a feather between the world of art and graphic design, the powerful duo can be found getting down and dirty with some good, old fashioned graphic design. They’ve cottoned on to the fact that bright colours and nudity are what we want to see, and by throwing in their truly impressive, classical design and typographical knowledge into the mix, they’re almost indestructible. Have catalogues for art shows ever looked so mouth-wateringly good?

VLF is a multidisciplinary studio covering the fields of art direction, graphic design, photography and web design, founded in Paris in 2009 by the artist duo Thomas Cristiani & Antoine Roux. The studio has recently teamed up with Aude Debout, who has a great grounding in knowledge and experience about the edition of many publications.
I specially love the magazine L’imparfaite » “Behind every erotic story, there is a human story That encompasses a social, political and Aesthetical discourse. It is precisely this story we want to tell.”
