Tim Walker’s photographs have entranced the readers of Vogue, month by month, for over a decade. Extravagant staging and romantic motifs characterise his unmistakable style. After concentrating on photographic stills for 15 years, Walker is now also making moving film.
On graduation in 1994, Walker worked as a freelance photographic assistant in London before moving to New York City as a full time assistant to Richard Avedon. On returning to England he initially concentrated on portrait and documentary work for UK newspapers. At the age of 25 he shot his first fashion story for Vogue, and has continued to work to much acclaim ever since.
The Victoria & Albert Museum and the National Portrait Gallery in London include Walker’s photographs in their permanent collections.
Walker staged his first major exhibition at the Design Museum, London in 2008. This coincided with the publication of his book ‘PICTURES’ published by teNeues.
In 2008 Walker received the ‘Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator’ from The British Fashion Council. In 2009 he received an Infinity Award from The International Center of Photography in New York. In 2012 Walker received an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society.
In 2010 Walker’s first short film, ‘The Lost Explorer’ was premiered at Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland and went on to win best short film at the Chicago United Film Festival, 2011.
2012 saw the opening of Walker’s ‘STORY TELLER’ photographic exhibition at Somerset House.
The exhibition coincides with the publication of his new book, ‘STORY TELLER’ published by Thames and Hudson.

Tim Walker (født i 1970) er en engelsk modefotograf med base i London. Hans interesse for fotografering begyndte allerede før han ville på universitetet, og arbejdede for Conde Nast Publications i London. Da han senere blev nummer 3 i en fotografikonkurrence i den engelske avis The Independent, valgte han at tage tre år på Photography BA Hons degree på Exter college of art. I 2008 blev hans første egen udstilling holdt på Design Museum i London, hvilket også resulterede i en udgivelse af en bog med hans billeder. Flere museer som Victoria and Albert Museum og National Portrait Gallery i London har alle permanente udstillinger med billeder taget af Tim Walker.

”’Timothy ‘Tim’ Walker”’ (° 1970) is een Brits (mode-)fotograaf. Walker raakte vooral bekend dankzij zijn werk voor Vogue. Zijn stijl wordt gekenmerkt door surreële beelden die gefotoshopt lijken te zijn. Dat is echter niet het geval want Tim Walker is van de overtuiging dat de foto er al moet zijn bij het nemen van de foto en niet na het bewerken met een beeldbewerkingsprogramma achteraf. Hij fotografeert ook nog altijd analoog, zoals hij in zijn fotografieopleiding geleerd heeft.
